Foreign secondary school diplomas

The process of recognition of foreign education starts with an application to study at the University of Ljubljana. For all applicants with a foreign qualification, the application form is also an application for recognition of education for the purpose of further education. The procedure is managed by an authorised person at the university where the candidate first applies to study.

Recognition procedure

Evidence required for the recognition of foreign education for the purpose of continuing studies for admission to the first year of bachelor's and single master's degree programmes at the University of Ljubljana:

  1. An e-copy or photograph of the document(s) of the foreign education completed for which the applicant wishes to be considered in the application and admission procedure, without legalisation. The HEI will verify the authenticity of the copy of the document(s) with the issuer of the original document(s).If the HEI is unable to confirm the authenticity of the document(s), applicants will be asked to send the original document(s) of their studies abroad, legalised according to the rules and regulations of the country of origin.

    Legalisation requirements according to the country of origin of the document(s):

    Without legalisation: Austria, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Romania, North Macedonia and Serbia.

    Apostille stamp: the countries signatory to the Hague Convention, the competent legalisation authorities.

    Legalisation under the Act on the authentication of documents in international traffic: all other countries. Under the Act, the document is authenticated in accordance with the regulations of each foreign country, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The stamp and signature of the authorised person of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the foreign country are then authenticated by the diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Slovenia abroad accredited for that country or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.

  2. An e-copy or photograph of a certified translation into Slovene or English of the education document referred to in point 1. If the candidate needs to send a translation of the document, he/she will be asked for it later on the eVŠ portal.
  3. An e-copy or photograph of the evidence of the content and duration of the training and of the obligations fulfilled during the training. If the candidate has to send a translation of the document(s), he/she will be asked for it later on the eHE web portal.
  4. An e-copy or a photograph of a short chronological description of the education relevant to the application procedure and the recognition of the foreign education. Please write it in a few sentences, including the years of your previous education.
