Recognition of foreign education
Recognition of foreign education is regulated by Act on Assessment and Recognition of Education (OJ of RS, No. 87/11 and 97/11) with regard to international and bilateral agreements concluded between the Republic of Slovenia and other countries.

Recognition with a view to access to education in the Republic of Slovenia is a procedure whereby, in the course of enrolment, holders of foreign certificates and diplomas are issued decisions on recognition of their education for access to study programmes in Slovenian higher education.
The application and the procedure
The procedure is initiated by holders of foreign certificates and diplomas, wishing to pursuit higher education in one of the programmes in one of the calls for enrollment:

Length of the procedure
After the application for recognition of education is complete, the procedure should take two months at the longest. In case there are additional requirements to be made, the procedure may be prolonged.
All the relevant information regarding deadlines for applying for study, should be observed in the calls for enrollment:
- First cycle and long cycle master study programmes (medicine, veterinary science…), every February
- Second cycle master study programmes, every June
- Doctoral study programmes, every June
Please note:
- The former Yugoslav certificates and diplomas, obtained before June 25, 1991, are valid and are not processed within the recognition procedure;
- The IB diplomas are recognized by the Act on General Secondary Education (OJ of RS, No. 1-07) and are not processed within the recognition procedure;
- The process takes 2 months
- We advise the candidates, abiding in a foreign country, to appoint and authorise a person in Slovenia, to help with the procedure (authorisation on the N form)

1) Procedure for recognition of foreign senior secondary school certificates for admission to the 1st year of first cycle and long master study programmes

Central administration of the University of Ljubljana is authorised to conduct the procedure for recognition of foreign senior secondary school certificates for Slovene citizens or citizens of EU member countries with foreign certificates who apply entry into the first year of undergraduate study programmes offered by the University of Ljubljana, University of Primorska, University of Nova Gorica or one of the higher education institutions not affiliated to any of the universities.

3) Procedure for recognition of foreign higher education credentials or diplomas for admission to 2nd, 3rd…years of undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate study programmes
Students of foreign universities who would like to transfer to continue their studies at the University of Ljubljana, should also apply for the recognition of their qualifications. The deadline for application for study and therefore the deadline for applying for recognition of foreign credentials is defined by individual faculty or academy.
