Study programme

ECTS credit points can be obtained for the first or the second cycle of the study programme.


Enrolment in the first or the second cycle of a study programme of the University of Ljubljana. Requirement for taking the exam is 75% attendance of the course.

Methods of work

  • Lectures: 10 hrs.
  • Tutorial: 50 hrs.
  • Individual work: 30 hrs.


The exam is scored from 110 in accordance with the Statutes of the University of Ljubljana. Theoretical (50%) and practical (50%) exam.

Content of ECTS sports subject

Pilates is one of the most popular workouts for recreational sports, professional sports and also rehabilitation.

Theoretical content relates to the historical development of the Pilates workout, terminology in sport, philosophy of exercise, anatomy and physiology of exercise and an understanding of the importance of proper execution of exercises.

Practical content (exercises) relates to the proper implementation of the basic Pilates exercises, identification and correction of errors in execution (with and without the use of different props), identifying abnormalities in body posture and use of basic exercises to eliminate (compensate) abnormalities in body posture.

Objectives and competences

  • To master the basic theoretical and practical knowledge for effective Pilates workout
  • Exact knowledge of Pilates methodology and techniques for executing the basic Pilates exercises, including use of different props (balls, bands) in Pilates exercises
  • Identifying and correcting technical and aesthetic mistakes during the execution of the basic Pilates exercises
  • Adapting the exercises for individual needs
  • Provide students with the latest findings in research and practice, and to prepare them for independent execution of the Pilates program as a counterweight to a sedentary lifestyle
  • Understanding the problems arising from inactivity of the spine and management of specific exercises for daily practice

Intended learning outcomes

Theoretical and practical knowledge of proper Pilates techniques (which shows us the knowledge of conscious body control positions and movements of the body), knowledge of methodological procedures and terminology; Identifying problems in body posture and correcting them with proper Pilates exercises, identifying mistakes in Pilates technique;

Self-assessment of the movements and body positions, monitoring own progress and identifying mistakes when performing Pilates exercises;

Use of Pilates in everyday life;

Making new friends, socialization, quality of life, building permanent lifestyle habits
