The University of Ljubljana received an international recognition and opportunity for further research work by establishing the UNESCO Chair for Water Related Disaster Risk Reduction.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Engineering of the University of Ljubljana took over the works of the UNESCO Chair. For four years, the Chair will be able to continue its previous internationally successful cooperation in the field of research related to water disasters. The emphasis of the work by the UNESCO Chair will be on cooperation with the implementation of the UNESCO International Hydrological Programme (IHP). One of its directives is to implement activities of the "More space for water" project and activities related to its visibility in domestic and foreign space. In 2017, they will participate in organizing a PhD summer school on natural disasters at the University of Ljubljana where the University of Brescia and the BOKU University from Vienna will also participate.
The current focus of the UNESCO Chair is supporting the organization of the 4th World Landslide Forum (WLF4) entitled "Landslide Research and Risk Reduction for Advanced Culture of Living with Natural Hazards", which will be held in Ljubljana next year, namely from 29 May 2017 to 2 June 2017. The University of Ljubljana is one of the organizers of this international forum.
