Today the Rector's Office of the University of Ljubljana hosted the opening of the LITOSFERA (Lithosphere) exhibition by the Department of Geology and the Department of Textiles, Graphic Arts and Design of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering of the University of Ljubljana.
The exhibition was accompanied by speeches by the Rector of the University of Ljubljana Prof. Dr. Ivan Svetlik, the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering Prof. Dr. Petra Eva Forte Tavčer and lecturer at the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering Assoc. Prof. Dr. Marko Vrabec.
For the occasion, Assoc. Prof. Marko Vrabec who helped prepare the exhibit wrote:
“We were invited to prepare an exhibition for the University and wider public, featuring our study collections of minerals, fossils and rocks. We are glad to have the opportunity. With the Litosfera exhibition we would like to show you the rocks from the geologist's point of view – they tell us the history of the Earth, its transformative processes, and the history of life on it. The the exhibition will help you read what is written in the rocks, which is also the main purpose of our collections, not for accumulating samples or collecting attractive pieces of minerals and rock. The aim of our collections is to educate new generations of experts who will be able to read their history, the future of the Earth and humankind. The exhibition features almost exclusively samples found in Slovenia. You will be surprised by the Slovene granite, dinosaur bones, the rock that contains diamonds, fossilised corals and the favourite decorative stone of our famous architect Plečnik. We are looking forward to your visit.”
The exhibition is open until Friday, 26 May 2017, every working day between 16:00 and 19:00 (for visits with larger groups contact or call 01 2418 604).
