The University of Ljubljana, together with the National Institute of Biology (NIB) hosted an expert in the field of planning, developing, and managing regional innovation systems and hubs, Dr. Jukka Viitanen from Finland. At his lecture he presented the concept and examples of innovation hubs (www.hubconcepts.com).
Dr. Viitanen is a recognised scholar in innovation system development and a business practitioner with experience in several high-tech industries in the Asia-Pacific Region. He has conducted extensive studies and evaluations of national innovation systems, science parks and university-industry partnerships. He was invited to Slovenia at the right time, because the University of Ljubljana together with partners, institutes, and companies is establishing a Slovenian innovation hub. The knowledge and experience of an expert such as Viitanen are extremely useful in this process.
