The ceremony held in Plenary hall (Zbornična dvorana) of the University of Ljubljana on 8 October celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design.
The event was opened by the Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design Associate Professor Boštjan Botas Kenda who pointed out that following a working method closely intertwined with other similar institutions is the only way to assure the successful future of the professions the Academy represents. In his welcoming speech the Chancellor of the University of Ljubljana prof. dr. Ivan Svetlik said that a certain enthusiasm could be felt upon this occasion, probably the same kind of sentiment that the founders felt, which in his opinion is still nurtured by the current Academy management. Those present were also welcomed by the Minister of Culture Julijana Bizjak Mlakar, MSC and the Minister of Education, Science and Sport Maja Makovec Brenčič, PhD.
The participants of the evening event were also addressed by the Honorary Professor Tomaž Brejc, PhD, a former Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design and a long-time professor of art history and theory. Former deans received special recognitions as a thanks for their unselfish leadership of the Academy, and the Associate Professor Nadja Zgonik, PhD presented the exhibition entitled Treasures of the Art Collection (Zakladi likovne zbirke), which will be displayed from 9 October onwards at the premises of the rectorate of the University in Ljubljana.
