Humanities and Arts

At the undergraduate level, students of academic bachelor study programe Conservation and restoration of works of art learn the methods of research, preventive conservation and active conservation/restoration in the area of portable paintings, polychrome wooden plastics, wall paintings and stone plastics.

To facilitate understanding of the structures of works of art students will acquire drawing, painting and sculpting skills, both in terms of the knowledge of artistic language and technology. During the theoretical and studio courses students will acquire the basic methods of documentation, conservation and restoration procedures as well as learning about the materials, tools and equipment required for this work.

The knowledge of natural sciences, art theory and art history acquired during the theoretical courses will help them search for conservation/restoration solutions. Students develop the skills for rescuing damaged works of art during practical work in the studios of ALUO UL, museums, galleries and the Restoration Centre of the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia.

In the final study year and within the mandatory practical work at one of the above institutions they will acquire an in-depth knowledge of the technical, scientific, artistic and organisational aspects of conservation/restoration.

The mission of the study programme Industrial design and applied arts is to facilitate the development of talented individuals and working groups qualified for research design work, focusing on creating innovative, sustainable products and services. We are the only institution in Slovenia carrying out the study programme in industrial design and applied arts.

The aim of the programme at the first-cycle level is to provide the basic knowledge necessary for understanding the profession and working in the areas of industrial design and applied arts through design methodologies, and the development of individual design capacities. This multidisciplinary study stimulates students to holistically develop their design capacities.

Through practical courses and with the help of the tutors who are the leading design experts in Slovenia, we help develop the student’s abilities to identify and solve problems and upgrade these with the knowledge acquired during history and theory courses. The study is based on one-to-one teaching and a personal approach to students, which is crucial for teaching the topics included in the programme. Programme includes two orientations: Industrial design and Applied arts.


 

The entirety of study at the Department of Painting is organised in the form of a development spiral, which in different phases and at different levels includes professional and general knowledge, studio experience and technological development, which together encourage students to solve problems, experiment and develop a capacity for innovative thinking and opens for them pathways to the possibilities of individual practice.

The main goal of undergraduate studies at the Department of Painting is to enable students to acquire the appropriate knowledge and understanding, develop necessary personal attributes and master essential skills that equip and prepare students through a thoughtfully and coherently composed study programme in the Painting study programme and Video, Animation and New Media field of study, with a combination of studio, theoretical and professional subjects, for further personal development within the framework of fine arts or arising from it and for professional artistic practice.

Study programme Sculpture represents an interdisciplinary artistic study. During this study, the students are given opportunity to develop into broad and knowledgeable personalities. In the processes of learning and creating, students of sculpture research, get to know, combine and bring together broad theoretical areas; they acquire and combine theoretical/conceptual and practical/technical procedures.

While learning about the past and modern sculptural languages and developing student’s own expressions, the students are encouraged to be curious and analytical, carrying out contextual research and identifying various themes, forms and procedures. At the same time, by employing different aspects such as theoretical, practical, formal, material and conceptual, students will learn about the complex relationships between the material, content-related, formal, ontological and imaginary layers and about the social conditions for sculptural forms and artistic perception.

The programme is based on individual student work, assignments and projects that encourage the student's reflection and analysis, experimental approach and development of sculptural forms and procedures also through the existing solutions and conventions.

The study programme Visual Communications Design can boast many years of successful practice in teaching visual communications and covering the fields of graphic design, photography and illustration.

Through lectures, seminar exercises, assignments and studio work, students acquire basic knowledge that can be used in practice, both in printed and digital media, and in the workplaces of graphic designers, photographers and illustrators. After the first year, the study programme specialises in individual courses which are logically upgraded at the second level of study. The programme directs students to develop critical assessment of results in visual communications and connects them directly to the work environment through various projects.

The study programme emphasises multidisciplinarity and connections between individual study fields. The first-level study programme, with its well-considered vertical structure, enables students to successfully transition to the second level.

The aim of the academic bachelor study programme Musical arts is to educate talented musicians who already possess relevant secondary school knowledge for work in the artistic professions related to the principle study of the programme.

The elective teaching module offers additional knowledge necessary for teaching in their fields. A completed bachelor’s degree enables the graduates to continue their studies on the master’s degree programme of musical arts. The graduates of the master’s degree will have gained satisfactory knowledge and skills to work as musical artist on the field of their primary study, while the additional teaching module enables them to teach in primary and secondary music schools.

The programme enables the graduates to work in various artistic fields, and at the same time it provides the necessary theoretical knowledge for their instrument.

The Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology provides students with internationally comparable basic archaeological knowledge that enables them to identify and evaluate archaeological sources in terms of function, chronology, and spatial and cultural context, and to critically use archaeological scholarly literature.
Upon completion of the degree, graduates will be qualified to perform subsidiary professional and technical tasks in museums and heritage protection institutions, other cultural institutions and public services, media, and private companies active in the fields of culture, heritage, tourism, and spatial planning.
Basic knowledge and mastery of the methods and techniques of archaeological fieldwork, laboratory work, and recording processes enable graduates to successfully participate as technicians in archaeological investigations, in recording, protection, evaluation, presentation, and promotion of (archaeological) cultural heritage.
The bachelor's degree provides a foundation for postgraduate studies in archaeology.

The main aim of this programme is to provide students with a solid foundation of linguistic knowledge, including oral and written proficiency in a language of the chosen East Asian region. Through comprehensive language training, students will develop an in-depth understanding of the phonetics, grammar, vocabulary and syntax of the target language. They will acquire the skills needed to communicate effectively and fluently in a variety of contexts. In addition to linguistic knowledge, the foundation of the programme is knowledge and critical reflection on socio-historical and intellectual themes related to the relevant region.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be interculturally aware and able to move beyond a Eurocentric perception of the world. They will also be equipped with innovative approaches to interpersonal relations, enabling them to effectively navigate intercultural interactions and forge meaningful connections.

Overall, the aim of this programme is to produce graduates who are not only linguistically proficient but also have a comprehensive understanding of the cultural and civilisational aspects of their chosen East Asian region. They will become intellectually open-minded and critical individuals who are well prepared to engage with the world, communicate effectively and navigate the complexities of our increasingly interconnected global society.

By completing the programme, the graduate acquires extensive knowledge of ancient political and cultural history, literature, philosophy, religion and mythology, everyday life and other areas of ancient material culture and history of ideas. Special emphasis is given to the Latin Middle Ages and Humanism and the reception of Greco-Roman culture from the Renaissance to modern times.
By choosing a course, the student focuses on the thorough study of one of the two classical languages. Greek and Roman literature and culture are equally represented in the program.
The graduate thus acquires a broad classical-humanistic education, extensive knowledge of ancient history, literature and culture, as well as specific philological competences, being able to read different types of texts in the original Greek language, and understanding the history of the language and its influence on modern languages. The in-depth knowledge he develops enables him to do research independently, translate literary texts, and work in other areas where highly developed textual skills are required. He is also able to work in related fields where knowledge of classical languages is indispensable: archeology and museology, history, art history, linguistics and literary studies.

The aim of the first-level university combined bachelor programme Comparative Slavic Linguistics is to offer a broad and diverse study program that enables students to understand the Slavic world and Sloveneness within it as an important part of the European cultural space and to be able to place it in the European cultural reality from both a historical and a contemporary perspective.
At the theoretical level, graduates acquire general competences in historical and typological comparative linguistics of Slavic languages, as well as Slavic philology and cultural studies in general. At the applied level, students are capable of professional linguistic and philological engagement with several Slavic languages in different periods of time, as well as practical use and active communication in two modern Slavic languages.

 

The programme is based on the principles of the study of contemporary language and literature, which, in addition to a thorough knowledge of linguistic, literary and cultural traditions, aims to develop an awareness of contemporary spiritual and thought processes. Students learn about literary and broader cultural traditions throughout the history that are placed in a broader European context, while also highlighting connections with Slovenian space and historical consciousness.
The linguistic part of the study programme provides students with a basic knowledge at every linguistic level, while at the same time preparing them for various types of translation by taking into account the principles of applied linguistics.
Graduates can find employment in the field of economy, in various social and cultural institutions and in tourism, and the theoretical foundations they have acquired are also the basis for further study at master's level.

Graduates of the Bachelor's degree programme in English Studies acquire all the core knowledge and intercultural linguistic competences expected of a graduate in English or American Studies according to international standards. They are also trained to apply the knowledge and competences they acquire in a critical and flexible manner in a variety of contexts. Graduates of the double-subject degree programme are equally able to apply such knowledge and competences in relation to the other subject or area of their study.
Among the skills and competences acquired, the following should be highlighted: an in-depth knowledge of English grammar and linguistics; mastery of listening, speaking, reading and writing; understanding language contact between English and Slovene; understanding intercultural communication; knowledge of the cultures and literatures of English-speaking communities; an awareness of and ability to understand native and non-native speakers of English; linguistic accommodation and overcoming barriers to communication; and, not least, an awareness of the need to continuously improve the skills and competences already acquired in order to keep pace with the rapid development of the field.



 

The main objective of the programme is to acquire professional, theoretical and practical knowledge of the French language and literature and of Francophone culture in general, while promoting intellectual growth and self-education.
Graduates will acquire a knowledge of French (equivalent to level B2 with C1 elements in the Common European Framework of Reference) and the basics of one or more Romance languages and cultures. He or she also acquires a basic knowledge of French linguistics, literary theory and literary history.
He or she complements his or her educational profile with external electives in accordance with his or her needs and career ambitions. The acquired knowledge and skills enable the graduate to integrate successfully into professional life and to progress to postgraduate study programmes.

 

The main objective of the programme is to acquire professional, theoretical and practical knowledge of French language and literature and of Francophone culture in general, while promoting intellectual growth and self-education.
The graduate acquires an in-depth knowledge of French language and basic linguistic, literary-theoretical and literary-historical knowledge. The knowledge and skills acquired enable the graduate to integrate successfully into professional life and to progress to postgraduate programmes.

 

The students acquire the competences of an intelectual educated in humanities, and specific competences which open their path towards understanding of both general and specific questions in theoretical and applied linguistics. On the theoretical side, they are acquainted with the history of linguistics, main linguistic schools of thought, and with Slovene contributions to the linguistic theory. On the applied side, they can form opinions regarding the language policy on the majority and minority language communities, and regarding the issues of Slovene minorities abroad; they understand the relations and issues which appear in the relation human–language, and remove or smoothen out any potential conflicts.

The German Studies programme offers an intensive introduction to the German language and to the cultures and literatures of the German-speaking communities.
A broad range of subjects enables students to acquire a wide range of intercultural communicative skills in German. In addition to German, the programme offers the study of a second Germanic language, Dutch or Swedish, to acquire broader linguistic and intercultural competences.
Graduates of the German Studies programme will be able to perform jobs and tasks that require a good knowledge of the German language, cultural specificities and intercultural communication. They will work in various fields of business and various public and government services with contacts abroad, in various cultural institutions, publishing houses, and in the cultural and foreign policy editorial departments of several media. The programme also prepares them for further study in one of the second-cycle programmes offered by the Department of German Studies, where they can expand and deepen their knowledge.
The concept of the programme encourages students to participate more actively and creatively, developing a higher level of textual criticism, self-criticism of their actions, and intercultural evaluation.
 

By completing the programme, the graduate acquires in-depth knowledge of Greek language, literature and culture. The programme includes a course in modern Greek; contents related to modern Greek culture as well as the reception of ancient Greek literature and culture in modern Greece are also part of selected subjects.
The graduate acquires general competences of a humanistic intellectual as as well as specific skills: he is able to read challenging texts in the original language; has a thorough knowledge of the history of Greek and its influence on modern languages; comprehends Greek literature and culture; is acquainted with the role that ancient and later Greek literature and philosophy played in European literature and culture from early humanism to modernity.
The graduate is acquainted with the methods of philological textual analysis and is able to understand and interpret literary and technical works in a historical context. He is able to use primary and secondary literature and professional manuals. A graduate of the history study programme is well-read in humanities and social sciences. The history study programme enables the student to obtain the fundamental historical knowledge and the basic skills required for the scientific work and research.
The acquired knowledge and skills meet high international standards. The graduate can view the past in an analytical, critical and in-depth manner, as well as recognise and critically evaluate the contemporary political and social events.
Throughout the study course, a student is encouraged to work independently and the results of their work are incorporated into the pedagogical part of the study and research. The acquired competences enable the graduate to perform specific forms of research, journalistic, archival and museum work within the discipline, as well as work associated with humanities and social sciences.

The bachelor degree programme in History of Art prepares students for work in public and private institutions involved in monitoring, promoting, researching, and preserving works of art. Additionally, the study programme provides opportunities for employment in tourism and protocol. Within the study programme, students become familiar with the fundamentals and history of art history, gaining an understanding of its role in the broader context of the humanities and social sciences. They develop the ability to critically evaluate works of art and contextualize them within the appropriate temporal and spatial framework, with a special emphasis on examinig monuments in Slovenia and the neighbouring regions.
Graduates of the study program will be able to actively contribute to shaping the Slovenian cultural identity through their professional work, playing an important role in creating the conditions for general economic, social, and cultural development.




 

Graduates of the bachelor programme Comparative Linguistics acquire the general competences of a humanistically educated intellectual and the specific competences that are considered to be fundamental in (historical) comparative linguistics, whose main object of interest and scientific study are the principles and dynamics of the development of language over time.
They acquire the specific methodological apparatus that enables them to describe the whole range of linguistic phenomena at the synchronic and typological levels and to understand those phenomena in a diachronic perspective, as well as to interpret and critically evaluate scholarly linguistic literature, not only in the field of historical linguistics, but also general linguistics and the specific linguistic studies of the individual languages or whole language families.
They acquire an in-depth philological knowledge of several languages of the Indo-European language family from different time periods, combining it with the understanding of the historical grammar of these languages, as well as the characteristics and subsequent developmental trends of their common ancestor – Proto-Indo-European. They are qualified for further, scientifically oriented studies in comparative linguistics and for any specific tasks in all fields that require linguistic knowledge, as well as the specific linguistic competences and acumen in all kinds of linguistic research, especially philological work with texts.

 

Graduates of the programme acquire knowledge and intercultural linguistic competences expected of a graduate in Italian according to international standards. They are able to apply the acquired knowledge and skills critically and flexibly in relation to the other subject or discipline or their study.
Among the skills and competences acquired, the following are especially worth highlighting: the knowledge of the Italian linguistic system at all levels, the ability to use the Italian language in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, basic contrastive knowledge of Italian and Slovene grammar, knowledge of the linguistic contact between Italian and Slovene, and knowledge of the sociolinguistic situation of the Slovene community in Italy and of the Italian ethnic community in Slovenia. Furthermore, graduates also acquire knowledge of the conditions and various circumstances of intercultural communication, basic knowledge of Italian culture and literature, as well as the ability to understand Italian speakers, and to cooperate linguistically and overcome communication barriers.

The aim of the programme is to provide the future graduate with a broad spectrum of basic knowledge in the fields of theory, analysis and history of music, ethnomusicology (popular and folk/traditional music, music anthropology) and interdisciplinary areas of musicology (psychology, sociology and aesthetics of music, musical acoustics). Students of the combined course acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to work in a second professional field, which also expands their employment opportunities.
A graduate musicologist masters the methods of musicological work, knows and understands different theoretical perspectives of music. He has in-depth knowledge of music theory, develops the necessary listening skills, masters an analytical approach to music and is able to evaluate it critically. He has a thorough knowledge of the history, theory and reception of music from the beginnings to the modern age and understands that the art of music is determined by its historical and cultural (social, spiritual and psychological) context.
With the wide presence and accessibility of music, employment opportunities for graduates are also very broad: Musicology skills are needed in every institution that deals with music in some way. Among other things, graduates are often employed in the media, both public and private, as music is most present there. Musicologists are also employed in public and private institutions that preserve, process and research various musical materials. Many musicology graduates are also involved in shaping musical life at local and national levels as advisors and organisers in the public and private sectors (including as music advisors, organisers of musical events, professionals in cultural associations and other non-governmental organisations, public relations staff of musical institutions and ensembles, staff in protocol services or in the broad field of tourism).

Graduates acquire wide and thorough basic knowledge of philosophical problems and various theoretical and methodological approaches in philosophy.
By analysing in detail chosen philosophical problems and identifying solutions, by reading, analysing and interpreting original philosophical texts, by carefully deliberating their complex arguments and by critically perusing specialised literature students enhance the skills needed for independent scientific or expert work.
The goal of the study programme is to enable graduates to work (1) as scientists or experts in research and educational institutions, (2) as journalists and translators in the fields of philosophy, humanities and social sciences, (3) as library staff (although not as a librarian), (4) as members of editorial boards at publishing and media houses and (5) as employees of cultural institutions that monitor, research and preserve the world and the Slovenian philosophical and humanistic heritage.




 

The first cycle programme in Polish Studies equips graduates with intercultural and linguistic mediation skills. It provides them with knowledge, recognized by established international standards as necessary for a proficient Polish speaker. The program trains students in the practical application of their knowledge of Polish language, literature, culture, and history, as well as their significance in the Central European region. These skills are applicable across various sectors of the labor market, offering graduates theoretical and professional foundations, which enable them to effectively and systematically address specific professional challenges. Additionally, it introduces students to the fundamentals of research.
Graduates have the opportunity to further enhance their expertise through second-level studies. This enables them to acquire competences suitable for direct employment in a wide range of activities within both the public sector and private enterprises.

 

The undergraduate dual-subject university study program in Russian Studies is designed interdisciplinary, with its fundamental aim being to provide graduates with theoretical and professional foundations for effective and systematic resolution of specific professional problems.
Graduates of the undergraduate study program in Russian Studies acquire knowledge and language, cultural, and literary competences that they can apply in the job market, while also enabling further education. Through the program, graduates gain the ability of articulate written and oral expression in the Russian and Slovenian languages within the context of everyday conversation, the ability to respond appropriately in a Russian-speaking social and cultural environment, and the ability to recognize differences and similarities between the Russian and domestic cultural and social systems.
Graduates are capable of recognizing and understanding the specificities of literary texts and acquire knowledge that enables intercultural dialogue. Within the framework of the study, they become acquainted with historical, linguistic, and cultural circumstances that influence the hermeneutic distinctiveness of Russian literature for the Slovenian reader.

 

Graduates of the first level two-subject Bachelor's degree programme in Slovak Studies acquire general linguistic, literary, cultural and contrastive textual competences in Slovene and Slovak, as well as additional competences in a compulsory optional second Slavic language (Czech, Polish, Russian, etc.).This means that upon completion of their studies, they are able to communicate competently in Slovene and Slovak in writing and orally in a second Slavic language.
Graduates in Slovak language and literature can thus work in various areas of the economy, especially in public and state services and cultural institutions with a large number of contacts with foreign countries and an international clientele. It is an interdisciplinary university degree programme that provides graduates with the theoretical and professional foundations for the effective and systematic solution of concrete problems, introduces graduates to the basics of research, and at the same time enables them to deepen the knowledge acquired at the second level.

 

The programme considers the trends in the development of contemporary societies, where new connections and fusions between social spheres are taking place that make it impossible to understand culture without understanding these processes; at the same time, the sociology of contemporary societies requires the application of analytical procedures developed for the analysis of cultural practices in the narrower sense of the term.
The study is designed to build initially on broad basic sociological and broader social-scientific and humanities knowledge, which is developed in the upper years into specialised and specific sociological fields. The specificities of these theoretical fields provide the basis for the study of the formational processes of collective identities, national belonging and the cultural cleavage of society between tradition and contemporary challenges. They enable the student to identify and understand the cultural and identity policies of a national community and to confront local specificities in the organisation of collective cultural life with the broader contexts of integration and globalisation processes; these lead to a convergence of cultures and a new appreciation of intercultural contacts.
The programme's orientation gives it an important mission in educating people who can make an assertive and independent contribution to the development of the country's intercultural dialogue and its visions of global civilisational cooperation.

 

Students of the combined study programme acquire high linguistic competence in one of the South Slavic languages, with a focus on Croatian (and contrastively Serbian, Bosnian, Montenegrin) and Macedonian (and contrastively Bulgarian), as well as high literary and cultural competence in the field of South Slavic literatures, societies, and cultures. This means that, upon completion of their studies, students can communicate at a high level, both orally and in writing, in at least one of the South Slavic languages and have a good knowledge of South Slavic literatures, cultures and societies.
The study programme also provides the theoretical and professional foundations for the effective and systematic solution of concrete professional problems, introduces graduates to the basics of research, and at the same time enables them to further their knowledge at a second level.
Graduates of South Slavic Studies acquire the competences for the jobs in a wide range of public sector activities and in public and private enterprises. The acquired knowledge and skills ensure successful and creative work.

 

The graduates of the Spanish Language and Literature bachelor programme acquire all the expertise and intercultural linguistic competence which are recognised by international standards as the fundamental knowledge and competence of a bachelor of a combined programme of Spanish, and are capable of critical and flexible use of the acquired expertise and competence in association with the other study programme or field. In use, they are able to take into consideration all circumstances of a particular context.
Among the acquired knowledge and competence, the following are especially worth of highlighting: knowledge of all the levels of the Spanish language system, ability of listening, spoken, written and reading use of Spanish, knowledge of the linguistic contact between Spanish and Slovene, knowledge of the conditions and different circumstances of intercultural communication, basic knowledge of the cultures and literatures of the Spanish speaking communities, openness and ability to understand speakers of Spanish and other languages, capability to cooperate linguistically and eliminate communicative obstacles, consciousness about the need for constant upgrading of already acquired knowledge and competence in accordance with the quick development of the professional field and willingness for such upskilling.

The BA translation programme is an interesting and modern combination of linguistic, cultural, literary, and translation studies through which students acquire linguistic, cultural, and contrastive textual knowledge in Slovenian, English, and a selected third language, and also acquire basic translation skills.
The course has single-subject and dual-subject tracks, which make it possible to study seven different language combinations. Depending on the track they choose, graduates are able to communicate fluently and competently in writing and orally in Slovenian and one or two foreign languages, and they are well versed in two or three European cultures, which is why they are able to work in a multilingual and multicultural environment, mediate appropriately between languages and cultures, and use language technologies.



 

The main goal of the academic bachelor study programme Graphic and interactive communications is to qualify experts who are able to manage the most demanding technological processes in graphic arts and media, and in the field of interactive communications.

The study offers graduates relevant fundamental knowledge and expertise to proceed with their education at the second level. In addition to the knowledge in the field of graphic, media and interactive communications, graduates develop scientific approach abilities.

The graduates of this programme acquire knowledge about graphic technology and graphic material know-how used in the design and manufacturing of graphic products. In addition, graduates master the basics of visual and art language, techniques of artistic expression, and ways of interpreting and designing the art scheme of products. Graduates understand the technological realisation of graphically designed ideas, are capable of solving ecological problems in the printing industry, creating new ideas and developing the abilities of interpersonal communication, negotiation, teamwork, leadership and creative thinking.
 

The academic bachelor study programme Textile and fashion design addresses the prospects of the Slovenian textile and clothing industry, which are are similar to the prospects for other European industries in the field.

The future is generally oriented towards products with higher added value, high-quality, top-level design, creativity, advanced products, intelligent textiles and similar. Additionally, these goals are closely connected to the adequate knowledge and qualifications of the people involved.

Although it has its origins in traditional handicraft skills, textile and fashion design is a branch that during the last century has developed into an independent and specific system of expression, interlinked with other artistic and designer practices and theories. The creative process of a textile designer generally starts with an idea, which needs to be first visualised through artistic means, while suitable technical processes are simultaneously considered and strategies developed.

The process of conceptualising and materialising an idea requires broad understanding and experience of artistic disciplines and sociology and knowledge of production technologies. The new concept of the study, based on experience from graduate and post-graduate studies of designing textiles and clothing in the past 35 years and cooperation with foreign higher education institutions, especially those included in the CUMULUS network, was organised around a new concept based on four parallel vertical studies.

These basic directions include parallel studies of designing textiles and clothing, artistic expression, technology (which supports the realisation of designer ideas) and support studies (consisting of the knowledge and skills of computer-assisted design, the history of textile and fashion design, marketing and management).

The basic goal of the professional bachleor study programme Graphic and media technology is to train experts of sufficient professional breadth who are capable of managing, in terms of the technology and execution, diverse and demanding graphic activities and graphics related to media activities. 

Graduates have broad expertise and professional knowledge in the study area of graphic and media technology, augmented by selected knowledge in the areas of natural sciences, information and communication technology, aesthetics, graphic design and management of digital media in visual and interactive applications and services.

Graduates also have professional ethical and environmental responsibility, can use modern tools of different graphic and media technologies and are able to observe, analyse and evaluate natural, cultural, artistic design and visual systems. Graduates of the programme Graphic and media technology acquire an overview and understanding of technological parameters of digital media, visual and interactive applications and services and basic graphic materials and digital techniques of representing information, including the capacity to understand the interdependency between technology and design.

The academic bachelor study programme Theological and religious studies is based on a wide spectrum of knowledge and methods from the fields of humanities, sociology, culture, theology and religion.

Students are qualified not only for work within the field of church, but also in other fields, for example culture, public life and administration, economy, history and other types of services connected to working with people. Professional profile of graduates is wide and meets the requirements of the labour market in the field of humanities, which demands flexibility, ability of quick understanding of humanistic issues and high level of social competence.

During more than 400-year tradition of theological studies in Slovenian history, graduates of these studies have not only been religious workers, but also important cultural, social, political, social work and economic initiators and leaders. Additionally, Theological and religious studies prepare the student for addressing the problems in the field of fundamental questions of human existence and culture.

The combined academic bachelor study programme Theological studies can be combined with the study programmes of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana and programmes of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Maribor as offered by the call for enrolment for respectful study year.

The list of possible combinations, where two 90-ECTS programmes together represent a 180-ECTS-combined bachelor study programme is as follows: at the Faculty of Theology: Theology. at the Faculty of Arts: English; Czech; Philosophy; French; Geography; Greek; Italian; South Slavic Studies; Latin; Musicology; German; Polish; Russian; Slovak; Slovenian; Sociology; Spanish; Art History; History; other programmes that will be developed at the Faculty of Arts according to the needs of education, lifelong learning and the development of fields, as well as all those programs that should prove to be suitable.

It can also be combined with respectful study programmes of the University of Maribor Faculty of Arts (English language and literature; Philosophy; Geography; Hungarian language and literature; German language and literature; Slovenian language and literature; Sociology; History; Pedagogics.

Conservation and restoration of works of art master study programme is designed to produce professionals capable of independent handling and managing of demanding conservation/restoration tasks.

When enrolling in this programme students can choose between two orientations: Conservation/restoration of paintings and polychrome sculpture and Conservation/restoration of wall paintings and stone sculpture. These allow students to deepen their basic skills and upgrade the knowledge acquired during the first-cycle study necessary for research and development tasks of restoring art materials, where each area requires specific solutions. In addition to acquiring a more in-depth theoretical knowledge, the emphasis at this study level will be placed on the selected artistic and research conservation/restoration area.

Practical work is organised in the studios of ALUO UL, in museums, galleries and at the Restoration Centre of the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia.

The Industrial design and applied arts master study programme is organised as a highly multidisciplinary study aiming at in-depth project work addressing pressing social and user-related problems.

Students acquire capacities to understand and practically deal with the issues of industrial design and applied arts through theoretical, developmental and design projects, using structured and complex methodologies and developing individual design skills. To a large extent, these tasks are based on real projects carried out in association with numerous partners from the private and public sectors. Through this work, students will learn to manage all the stages of design methodology and find solutions for the identified problems as well as independently managing complex projects.

The programme is also suitable for students with previous knowledge and qualifications in social sciences, natural sciences, technical studies or economics. Programme includes two orientations: Industrial design and Applied arts.

The master study programme Painting  represents an in-depth basis for professional artistic activity and further education of students. In three fields of study – Graphics, Painting and Video, Animation and New Media – it provides acquisition of abilities for the students for independent and active artistic activity in contemporary art and related areas of social life and work where aesthetic skills and an innovative approach are required. By encouraging students to develop analytical and methodical skills as well as thoughtful and critical thinking, the Painting master's programme provides them with valuable competencies that can be transferred and used in various areas of professional and social life. The programme is based on the students’ own artistic production and the master's project connected with it, consisting of the artwork and its theoretical explanation. The entirety of study at the Department of Painting is organised in the form of a development spiral, which in different phases and at different levels includes professional and general knowledge, studio experience and technological development. These encourage students to solve problems, experiment, and develop a capacity for innovative thinking and opens for them pathways to the possibilities of individual practice.

The master study programme includes three courses: Painting, Printmaking, Video, Animation and New Media.

The master study programme Scupture aims to help students in developing as independent artists having, or mastering, not only the basic knowledge and experiences that allow the creation of independent works of art, but also the knowledge and experiences covering the areas that might be associated with their skills: gallery systems, presenting and exhibiting, the social and critical functions of art and the importance of art in the integration processes of society.

The programme leads to more in-depth knowledge and practices, encouraging creativity and artistic expression as well as artistic research that, under the conditions of a continual development of art, expansion of styles, tools, media and different approaches, is that element of an artistic activity that allows a creative complexity, a vision and an open attitude towards art today.

The programme is a project study combining all the processes of artistic and theoretical work from an idea, theme or reflection to the production and presentation in a gallery. In the master thesis, students present the independence and individuality of their creative work and the capacity to articulate and realise their ideas and concepts.

The Visual communications design master study programme guides students towards deepening their knowledge and developing personal creative abilities, technical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for independent creative work in different areas of visual communications: photography, graphic design, illustration and interactive design.

Through research and experimentation this study encourages innovation and talent, a search for new approaches to the conception and visual expression of communication topics.

The master study programme Musical arts is an artistic programme. The graduates are qualified for work in artistic professions in the fields of musical performance and musical composition. By acquiring pedagogical and andragogical education, they can teach in music and general schools.

The Master's Degree in Archaeology provides students with in-depth, internationally comparable knowledge in various archaeological sub-disciplines, methods and theories. Through critical analysis of published data and interpretations, as well as through practical work in field and laboratory data collection, processing of results, and examination of artefacts, students are enabled to conduct independent research and perform higher-level professional tasks.
Practical training and project assignments integrated into various courses prepare students for independent research and fieldwork. The aim of the master's degree is to prepare students for higher-level professional employment in museums, heritage protection institutions, and other public and private companies that provide archaeological services in the areas of culture, heritage protection, education, tourism, and spatial planning.
Upon completion of the degree, students are qualified to discover, record, protect, evaluate, present and promote (archaeological) cultural heritage, conduct independent archaeological research, collaborate across disciplines and work in the field of spatial planning.
The master's degree provides a foundation for further study and research at the doctoral level.

By completing the Classical and Humanistic Studies master degree programme, the graduate acquires in-depth knowledge of the Greco-Roman ancient culture, the Latin Middle Ages and Byzantium, as well as the humanistic tradition, which transmitted the language, ideas and images of classical antiquity to modernity. By choosing one of the courses, the student focuses on a thorough study of one of the two classical languages, which offers a broad overview of ancient material culture and history of ideas. The study is interdisciplinary in structure, thus offering the student to study, and later work professionally, in many related fields. The Classical Cultures courses are implemented in cooperation with a consortium of several foreign universities and enable students to solve complex scientific challenges in an international environment and to transfer new study and research methods from abroad to the domestic environment.
The graduate thus acquires a thorough classical-humanistic education, extensive knowledge of ancient history, literature and culture, as well as specific philological skills; he is also acquainted with the most important modern linguistic and literary theories, and has a wide knowledge of theoretical discourses of related humanistic disciplines.
The in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge he develops enables him to do research independently, translate literary texts, and work in areas where highly developed textual skills are required. He is also able to work in related research fields where knowledge of classical languages is indispensable: archeology and museology, history, art history, linguistics and literary studies.

The second-cycle Master's programme Comparative Literature and Literary Theory expands the students' knowledge of literary science obtained at the first cycle of study. It familiarises students with the problematics of comparative literature, literary history, and literary theory, and introduces them to the methods of literary science used to address the said problems.

Special emphasis is placed on the relationships between literature and philosophy, religion and other art and culture in general, and on the issue of Slovenian literature in the framework of European and world literature, since one of the main focal points is the study of Slovenian literature in the international context. The students also gain knowledge in literary translation and fiction writing.

Along with the general competencies from the field of humanities, students also gain subject-specific competencies in the comprehension of literature and its connections with other philosophical activities, and the role of literature in the Slovenian as well as in European and world cultures. Students become qualified to excel at demanding forms of literary or cultural journalism, editorial work (publishing houses, newspapers, radio, TV), dramaturgical work (theatre, radio), literary criticism, and organizing creative writing workshops. They are also qualified to do research in the context of literary science.

The fundamental goal of the combined second-level master's study program Comparative Slavic Linguistics is to offer a broad and diverse study program that will enable students to understand the Slavic world and the Slavs within it as an important part of the European cultural space and be able to place it in the European cultural reality both from a historical as well as from a modern perspective.

At the theoretical level, graduates acquire specific competences in historical and typological comparative linguistics of Slavic languages and Slavic philology and cultural studies in general. At the applied level, students are capable of scientific linguistics, philological engagement with several Slavic languages in different periods of time, and practical use and active communication in three modern Slavic languages.

The fundamental goal of the French second-cycle master's study program is to deepen professional, theoretical and practical knowledge of French language and literature, while at the same time encouraging intellectual growth and self-education.
Graduates of both non-pedagogical majors deepen their knowledge of French language. They also acquire in-depth linguistic, literary-theoretical and literary-historical knowledge.
Graduates of the single-subject course French and Romance studies also improve the acquired knowledge and competences in Romance languages.
Graduates of the double-subject pedagogical course deepen their knowledge of the French language, acquire linguistic, literary-theoretical and literary-historical knowledge and, within the framework of the general subjects of the pedagogical module and didactics of French, acquire knowledge and skills in the field of teaching French as a foreign language.

Graduates of the second-cycle Master's degree programme in German Studies acquire all the linguistic, literary and intercultural skills and competences that, according to international standards, correspond to the profile of highly qualified professionals in the field.
The study programme prepares students for complex, demanding, managerial and creative tasks and requirements in the linguistic, textual, cultural and intercultural fields.

Graduates understand, speak, and write standard German at the C2 level. They understand language as a medium and result of symbolic interaction, recognise its cognitive, emotional, creative, social, referential, and metalinguistic functions, and use it accordingly. They master contemporary theories and theoretical models, critically evaluate them, and apply them effectively using appropriate scientific tools. They respond critically and competently to professional, scientific and literary texts.

They mediate between cultures and develop communication between them. They know the linguistic, literary, cultural and social differences and similarities between the Slovenian area and the German-speaking area, which includes several centres. They show a high level of social-ethical reflection, commitment to professional ethics, professional criticism and responsibility in working with people and in community participation.

By completing the combined Master's degree programme Greek Language, Literature and Culture, the graduate acquires in-depth knowledge of the Greek language, culture and literature. He acquires general competences of a humanistic intellectual as well as specific technical skills:  he has a thorough command of Greek language and is able to read  the most challenging texts in the original; he comprehends the history of Greek and its influence on modern languages; he has a thorough knowledge s Greek literature and culture from antiquity to modern era; he is acquainted with the role that ancient and later Greek literature and philosophy played in European literature and culture.
By choosing one of the courses, the student can focus either on the study of Classical or modern Greek, which are primarily research courses. Alternatively, he can choose Teacher Education course, which offers a thorough knowledge of ancient Greek language and culture for teaching profession.

The graduate is acquainted with the methods of philological textual analysis and is able to understand and interpret literary and technical works in a historical context, being familiar with modern theoretical ideas and methodological approaches. He develops abilities and expertise to do research independently, to translate literary texts, to work in other areas where highly developed textual skills  and knowledge of classical languages are required.

The Teacher Education Course graduate is qualified to impart the knowledge of Greek language, ancientliterary and cultural history of Greek antiquity, as well as its heritage in later periods.

Students of the second-level Master's degree programme in Hispanic Studies acquire all the knowledge of Spanish language and literature that, according to international standards, are considered to be the skills and competences required of highly qualified professionals in the field. They are able to apply these skills flexibly and critically in different contexts of intercultural mediation related to their field of study.

Graduates acquire the following knowledge and competences: an in-depth knowledge of Spanish linguistic system, with the possibility of specialised knowledge of the different levels and linguistic bases of these skills; knowledge of the basic literary-critical bases as required for the independent study of literary texts; knowledge of the different approaches and methods of linguistic and literary study of various texts; the ability to critically evaluate and apply the acquired knowledge and skills; the ability to selectively choose and apply methods of studying texts in Spanish language; the ability to interdisciplinarily integrate chosen study and research topics, the ability to meaningfully synthesise the collected data and findings, the ability to present the achieved results in terms of their social relevance.

Students apply their knowledge and skills critically and in relation to other areas of study. They accept ethical responsibility for their intercultural interventions and other activities. They strive to contribute to the highest possible level of quality intercultural cooperation and understanding through their work. Their research work enriches knowledge in all areas of their work.

The master degree programme is subdivided into a single course and a combined course. The single course allows for an in-depth acquisition of knowledge about the Slovene history, the history of South-Eastern Europe, and general history. The combined course encourages an interdisciplinary integration of the study programme with other disciplines, an in-depth examination of individual thematic sets. First and foremost, it offers the opportunity for a theoretical and methodological upgrading of topics, approaches, and methods that students acquired at the first (bachelor degree) cycle. Students can choose from a number of elective subjects, which enables them to tailor the study to their specific interests and link or adapt them to the other combined course.

The study programme aims to train the student for independent research of historical topics, independent work in archives, museums, research and other cultural institutions that research the past or protect historical heritage, as well as for work in different milieus where a trained humanist and a social scientist is needed.

The single and combined courses of the Master's degree programme in History of Art prepare students for research work, employment in museums, art galleries and other cultural institutions, as well as for work in institutions dedicated to the preservation of natural and cultural heritage and similar organizations engaged in monitoring, development, promotion, research, and protection of artworks and cultural monuments. Within the study programme, students deepen their knowledge of art historical methods and theories.

The Combined Teacher Education Course provides training for independent work in the educational process at the secondary and elementary school levels, as well as for conducting preparatory courses for high school graduation exam in art history. In addition to an in-depth understanding of art history, students also acquire the necessary teaching competencies as part of their studies.

With their scientific, professional, or pedagogical work, the graduates will contribute constructively to the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge about artistic achievements from the Slovenian environment. They will contribute to the shaping and preservation of Slovenian cultural identity and thus significantly influence the formation of the broad humanistic foundations necessary for a comprehensive and versatile economic, social, and cultural development.

Graduates of the Master's programme in Comparative Linguistics acquire the general competences of a humanistically educated intellectual and all the specific competences such as are considered to be fundamental in (historical) comparative linguistics, to an extent comparable to MA programmes in (Indo-European) comparative linguistics at other European universities.

They are capable of rigorous and in-depth scholarly engagement with linguistic material through a methodological approach that enables them to describe linguistic phenomena at the synchronic and typological levels and to understand the principles and dynamics of their development in a given linguistic system over time. They acquire in-depth philological knowledge of several languages of the Indo-European language family from different time periods, combining it with the understanding of the historical grammar of these languages as well as the structural features and developmental tendencies of the Indo-European proto-language itself. This in turn enables them to understand the principles that lead to the diversity of the individual synchronic linguistic peculiarities.

They are qualified for further, scientifically oriented studies in comparative linguistics and for specific tasks in all fields that require theoretical linguistic knowledge and/or specific linguistic competences and a general aptitude for all kinds of work in linguistics, especially for philological work with texts.

The master’s programme in interpreting trains highly qualified interpreters that are experts in establishing communication, mostly between members of different cultures and languages.

Graduating from the programme enables interpreters to professionally face current market demands and adapt to future needs. Interpreters can create a spoken or multimedia text from a written, spoken, or multimedia original, which fulfils a particular goal in the target language (Slovenian or two other languages) or culture. By using appropriate techniques, they are able to interpret business, professional, and political texts consecutively, in whispering interpretation (chuchotage), and simultaneously. They are trained to work independently and in a group, which they perform based on professional principles and in line with professional ethics at the national and international level. The languages offered are Slovenian, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Croatian, as well as Slovenian Sign Language.

The programme also provides advanced skills in translation and interpreting theory, providing graduates with their own understanding of theoretical principles and evaluation of them, as well as the ability to apply them in their work and to identify and solve problems that they will face as trained interpreters. The programme produces graduates highly qualified in interpreting theory, thus enabling them to continue their education at the doctoral level.

Graduates of the second-level master's study programme in Italian studies acquire all the core knowledge expected of a graduate in Italian according to international standards.  They are also able to apply the knowledge and competences they acquire in a critical and flexible manner in a variety of contexts. Graduates of the double-subject degree programme are equally able to apply such knowledge and competences in relation to the other subject or area of their study.

Graduates acquire the following skills and competences: in-depth knowledge of the Italian language system, including some familiarity with the discipline of linguistics in order to be equipped to carry out independent research on modern Italian language; knowledge of literary history and literary criticism that will enable them to independently study literary texts; knowledge of fundamental  research approaches and methods in the area of Italian language and literature; knowledge of selected aspects of language contact between Italian and Slovene on the western border and knowledge of the sociolinguistic situation of the Slovene ethnic community in Italy and of the Italian ethnic community in Slovenia; ability to cooperate linguistically and overcome communication barriers at a high level.

The Teacher Education Course graduate is qualified to impart the knowledge of Latin language, ancient literary and cultural history of Roman antiquity, as well as its heritage in later periods.

The Master's programme in Musicology is an extension of the graduate programme and trains graduates for the most demanding professional roles in the wider field of musicology. Due to the wide presence and accessibility of music, employment opportunities for graduates are also very broad: Musicology skills are needed in any institution that deals with music in some way. Musicologists are often employed in the media, both public and private, as that is where music is most present. They also look after the diverse musical heritage held in many libraries, archives and museums. As advisors and organisers in the public and private sectors, they help to shape musical life at local and national levels (e.g. as head of a concert agency, music manager, artistic director of a music ensemble, director of cultural institutions and in the wider field of heritage and tourism management). The double-subject Master's degree programme in Polish Studies is designed to build on the first-level programme and enables the acquisition of in-depth knowledge, skills or competences corresponding to the general or subject-specific competences of a graduate in Polish Studies.
The Master's degree programme provides graduates with a broad and fundamental humanistic education at both the theoretical and applied levels, as well as in-depth knowledge of Polish history, literature and culture and specific philological knowledge in the field of language. The study programme prepares students for demanding creative tasks and needs, and above all for independent research, translation, literary and scientific criticism, and interdisciplinary connections in the wider intercultural field.

The double-track second-cycle program in Russian Studies trains highly qualified graduates with a wide range of competencies and an in-depth knowledge of Russian culture, who can communicate competently in Russian in written and oral form and are able to establish communication between people of different cultures and languages. The program builds on the first cycle of the Russian Studies program and prepares students for complex, demanding, and creative challenges in the areas of linguistics and text analysis, as well as in cultural and intercultural areas.
Graduates of the Teaching program are qualified to teach, plan, and implement the most demanding activities in a wide range of school and extracurricular activities. They are also employable as Russian instructors at language education institutions.
Graduates of the Translation and Cultural Studies programs are qualified to carry out research and professional work in the fields of public administration, business, culture, and diplomacy, and perform other jobs requiring in-depth knowledge of the Russian language and culture.

Graduates of the second level master’s degree programme in Slovak Studies acquire the knowledge and intercultural linguistic competences that, according to international standards, correspond to the profile of a Slovak Studies graduate.
The programme builds on the first level programme in Slovak Studies as a fundamental starting point for the acquired competences and prepares students for complex, demanding, managerial and creative tasks and needs in the linguistic, textual, cultural, and intercultural fields.

The study programme provides graduates with the theoretical and professional foundations for the effective and systematic solution of concrete professional issues and introduces graduates to independent research. Graduates understand, speak, and write standard Slovak at C2 level. They understand language as a medium and a result of symbolic interaction, recognise its cognitive, emotional, creative, social, referential, and metalinguistic roles and use it accordingly. They master contemporary theories and theoretical models, critically evaluate them, and use them effectively with appropriate scientific tools. Graduates respond critically and competently to professional, scientific, and literary texts. They articulate their professional and general knowledge in an appropriate linguistic form; they can differentiate linguistically in both oral and written communication, considering different social contexts. They identify the specific features of the Slovak language, literature, culture, and history and compare them with the specific features of the Slovene language, literature, culture, and history. They can differentiate and communicate linguistic, literary, cultural, and historical phenomena, processes and (dis)continuities in a diachronic and synchronic perspective. They mediate between cultures and develop communication between them, knowing the linguistic, literary, cultural, and social differences and similarities between Slovene and Slovak and the Central European area.

The second cycle Master's degree programme in Sociology of Culture is designed to provide a broad social-humanistic and theoretically-focused study of culture, based on a deepening of a chosen area of gender studies, media and cultural studies, religious studies or globalisation studies.

In both cases, students graduate with skills that equip them to independently lead, organise, analyse and research contemporary cultural and social phenomena. The employment opportunities, which involve either leaving the programme or continuing on to a third level, are linked in the programme to the acquisition of further theoretical, methodological and epistemological foundations or concrete skills in the practical application of knowledge and analytical approaches.

The programme places particular emphasis on interdisciplinarity in research and on developing practical applications of cultural analysis for the needs of a wide range of cultural organisations, institutions, media and publishing houses, consultancies and agencies, public institutions, and non-governmental organizations. The double-subject master's degree programme trains highly qualified experts in the field of South Slavic studies with specialised knowledge in translation or cultural studies or teaching of South Slavic languages as foreign languages. Master's students can communicate competently in South Slavic languages. They can also communicate between members of different cultures and languages, either from a culturological or a translational perspective, or to function successfully in different educational contexts and at different school levels.

Successful completion of the programme enables students to understand theoretical principles, to evaluate and translate them into practical work, and to identify and solve the problems they face in their work as professionals. Graduates have advanced skills in translating texts of various text types from a range of fields, such as economics, law, natural sciences, social sciences, electronic media, computer science, humanities, and literature, from two foreign languages. They learn how to copyedit and transform texts for the needs of domestic and international public and private institutions. They are trained in terminological work and in computer-aided translation, and they also learn how to edit professional texts of various types in line with the specific conventions of the target language. The joint programme thus trains translators for professional and literary translation, subtitling, localization, and computer-assisted translation, as well as for lexicographic and terminological work. At the same time, the programme provides advanced skills in translation theory, enabling graduates to understand theoretical principles and their value and to apply them, as well as to identify and solve problems that professional translators encounter in their work.

Programme structure:
An essential element of the joint programme is that students must study abroad at a partner institution for at least one semester and earn at least 30 ECTS. At the University of Graz, students have direct contact with Austrian culture and German, and they acquire additional translation skills.

 

The basic goals of the master study programme Graphic and interactive communications are: to expand the knowledge of graduates of the university programme in the area of graphic and interactive communication; to gain theoretical knowledge, practical skills and competences in the field of media, graphic and interactive communications.

The engineering, supported by basic natural science knowledge, enables the development of creative and research work in the design of printed products, packaging and interactive media and the development of applications in computer graphics. Advanced conceptual thinking in design and basic art skills are integrated with technological knowledge in projectoriented work.

The textile and clothing industry arises from traditional handicraft skills, but in the last century it has developed a completely self-expressive system that is connected with art and other design practice and theory.

A textile designer’s creative process typically starts with an idea; it is necessary first of all to visualise it and later or parallel to that to find appropriate technical procedures. The process of conceptualising and materialisation of ideas requires a lot of knowledge and experience in the field of artistic disciplines, sciences and knowledge of implementing technologies.

Based on experience with current undergraduate and graduate education in the field of textile and fashion design over the last 35 years of cooperation with foreign higher education institutions, particularly those involved in CUMULUS network, a new study concept was developed based on four parallel verticals: basic, which includes parallel studies in textile and fashion design, art expressive verticals, technology, which means supporting the implementation of design ideas, and support, which includes the necessary knowledge and skills development in the field of computer design and knowledge of the history of textile and apparel marketing and management.

The master study programme Textile and fashion design deepens and builds on all four verticals, with foundations built at the academic bachelor level. Stronger international cooperation, intensity of study, professional liability and artistic creativity is intended at the master level study.

The fundamental objective of the master study programme Marital and family studies is to provide the relevant professional qualification through theoretical and methodological knowledge in all interdisciplinary dimensions (integration, upgrading of acquired knowledge) as well as practical application. The programme's objectives are to:

• train for planning, carrying out, monitoring and evaluation of consulting, educative, and prevention work with families, spouses/partners and individuals;
• develop the competence of understanding and critical evaluation of partnership, marital and family dynamics, factors of growth and development, risk factors for development of problematic issues and pathology;
• ensure acquisition of articulate knowledge of the findings of scientific research, oservations and studies in marital and family issues;
• ensure appropriate and necessary theoretical and practical basis for advanced study of family and marital therapy;
• enable the development of professional identity, ethical attitude based on pro-social values, capability to create professional relations with clients.

The basic goal of the masters study programme Religious studies and ethics is to form the profile of a theologist - religious studies scholar, distinguished by knowledge and competences in the field of religious studies, interreligious dialogue and ethical questions.

The programme enhances and upgrades the knowledge and competences, gained during the first level study programme of Theological and religious studies or any other comparable achelor study programmes. The emphasis is on the interdisciplinary studies of religious traditions in the context of a multicultural and multireligious society.

The student is educated and trained for independent research, trained to obtain new knowledge in the field of religious studies and ethics and its application. The fundamental profile characteristics of a theologist - religious studies scholar are scientism, the ability to use knowledge, interdisciplinarity and a dialogic stance. The graduate of this programme is expected to gain and know how to apply the in-depth knowledge of the religious phenomenon that is a defining structural constant both in the historical socio-cultural life as well as personal life.

The Central European Studies is a master's programme, the study programme offers a synthesis of the study of West Slavic languages. Students opt for a basic combination of two languages A and B (Polish, Czech, Slovak) upon enrolment, which builds on undergraduate programmes and prepares them for more complex and demanding tasks and needs in the general humanities and social sciences. A selection of courses in linguistics and literature is also linked to the chosen language A.

The linguistic part of the programme provides students with a thorough knowledge and mastery of the two languages, while preparing them for various types of translation by taking into account the principles of applied linguistics and, with the theoretical foundations acquired, for further study at third level. Students learn about literary and broader cultural traditions and social realities in a developmental process that is placed in a broader European context, while also highlighting the links with Central European region and the historical consciousness of individual national languages.

All four partners in the joint programme run all four semesters, with a parallel curriculum that allows students to complete part of their studies at the partner institutions. Mobility is compulsory in the 3rd semester, which is spent at the institutions of the chosen language A, but students also have the option of studying at the partner institutions of the chosen language B in any of the remaining semesters.
