The basic aim of the study programme is to educate the graduate for interdisciplinary understanding of biotechnologies in the processes of obtaining bio raw materials, active ingredients, improved varieties of agricultural plants and animal breeds, and in environmental protection. The study enables the graduate to become thoroughly acquainted with the specifics of individual biotechnologies, their development possibilities in the field of high technologies and the importance of the added value of high-tech products. He also gets acquainted with the applications of biotechnologies that provide an environmental approach and the restoration of natural resources. Of particular importance is the development of a sense for the rational integration of classical production technologies with new technologies, which are mainly based on changing the genomes of working organisms.
The basic aim of the study programme is to educate graduates with fundamental knowledge of ecological science, which is the basis for recognising the role of organisms on various levels of an ecosystem, for understanding processes and recognising changes in nature and in our immediate environment. Within the framework of the program, graduates get acquainted with different environments, organisms as carriers of energy flow and the circulation of matter, and with the laws that have developed there. They learn about abiotic and biotic factors (including human influence), which the appearance or disappearance of species and populations depends on, and set the limits of their spread. They also learn about the possibilities of preventing and mitigating changes in natural systems. The program provides critical knowledge needed to achieve the objectives of international conventions on nature protection.
The basic aim of the study programme is to educate experts who have in-depth knowledge of the impact and action of microorganisms on the environment, biotechnological production and humans. As part of their studies, graduates acquire knowledge and skills of working with microbes and master all the elements of safe work in a microbiological laboratory. They also acquire appropriate skills of written and oral reporting on the results of their work and obtaining information with the help of modern information sources.
The basic aim of the study programme is to provide a broad spectrum of biological knowledge with great aplicability in the business sector. Aquired competences in biochemistry, molecular genetics, immunology and physiology enable employment in various branches. Some special courses (Biomolecules in industry) are included in the programme because this knowledge is required in industry (Biotechnology) and will play an important role in near future. A high portion of practical training in form of laboratory practicals, seminars and in course of master thesis prepares graduates for autonomous and responsible work.
The master study programme Biochemistry is designed to qualify professionals for further academic advancement based on the knowledge acquired through undergraduate and master’s level studies, and to provide profound knowledge and skills in biochemistry to qualify for professional positions as biochemists in pharmaceutical, chemical and other biochemistry related industries and the public sector, and to acquire such a standard of knowledge and competencies to continue studies in doctoral study programmes.
The master study programme Chemistry is designed to upgrade knowledge and understanding of chemistry to be able to develop original ideas in research work, to qualify professionals assuming positions as chemists in chemical and chemistry-related industries and public services, to acquire high standards of knowledge and skills for further academic advancement.
The master study programme Computer and information science is composed of two tracks:
. Computer and information science
. Data science
The program enables graduates of first-level computer and information science programs to deepen and expand their knowledge and tools acquired at the first level. It is also interesting for graduates of other professions who wish to upgrade their knowledge with practical and theoretical knowledge of computer and information science.
The Computer and information science track offers future masters the knowledge and skills to be able to keep up with developments and technological changes, and engage in development and scientific work. The course provides in-depth orientation and professional specialization through elective modules covering the main branches of computer and information science.
Data Science is a selective track for students with a good knowledge of mathematics, computer science and/or applied statistics. The course has a demanding curriculum that equips students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to become leading experts, researchers or pedagogues in the field of data science.
Employment opportunities for graduates of this program are exceptional in both Slovenia and the world. Graduates can find employment practically in all branches of the market and non-profit sector, as computer technology and data science in today's society are indispensable.
The master study programme Financial mathematics is designed for students wishing to work in the financial industry.
In addition to courses in probability, statistics and financial mathematics, students also take some courses at the Faculty of Economics and some pure mathematics courses.
Graduates of this programme can take active part in planning and development in financial institutions and financial departments of large companies or engage in scientific research at economic research institutions. They can find employment in major banks, insurance companies, stock brokerage companies, investment firms, pension companies, health benefits companies, public sector and public agencies, logistic sector (optimisation), economic research institutes and universities.
To enroll, a bachelor degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, financial mathematics or a related field is required.
The Master's study programme Mathematics is intended for students interested in pure and applied mathematics, for those who wish to pursue a PhD degree in mathematics. It offers maximum flexibility in the selection of courses.
Graduates can participate in planning, engineering, and development in a professional environment or engage in scientific research in mathematics, theoretical computer science, or theoretical mechanics. They can find employment in research and development companies using mathematical modelling, software development companies, mathematical or mathematics-related research institutions, and universities. A bachelor's degree in mathematics or a related field is required to enroll.
The basic goal of the Master's study program in Medical Physics is to train students to use physical principles to understand the biological and medical bases of disease and health, the ability to detect disease early with imaging and non-imaging diagnostic techniques and to develop, manage and monitor disease treatment procedures.
The program builds on interdisciplinarity and thus connects physics, medicine as well as many other sciences (e.g., computer science, biology, pharmacy). Students receive both theoretical and practical knowledge in these fields. The lecturers are established scientists on an international scale, involved in the clinical and research environment, which gives the study exceptional extent and quality. With the successful completion of the program, students become experts in the field of medical physics, thus further developing their careers both in practice and in academia.
The title of Master of Medical Physics opens a wide range of jobs, from clinical institutions, jobs in industry, international and government bodies, as well as the continuation of academic and research careers (e.g., universities, institutes).
The aim of the Physics master study program is to educate researchers and specialists with the advanced knowledge of physics and the knowledge of physical laws of nature with the ability for critical thinking and a critical approach to solving a wide range of tasks and problems.
The different orientations offer a rough specialization, which is, because of a small number of obligatory courses, quite flexible and allows the student to combine several branches of physics.
The program also allows the students of non-physics programs, especially technical and natural science programs, to deepen their knowledge of physical principles and laws related to their specialization. The program is based on mastering theoretical foundations and their application in connection with practical work.
Graduates of the master study programme Geology can upgrade basic knowledge in all fields of geology.
Depending on personal interests, students specialise by choosing specialist modules of study (Regional Geology and Paleontology, Applied Geology, Geoenvironment and Geomaterials); in the context of optional courses within the module, students can intensify further specific knowledge of selected narrow areas of geological disciplines or interdisciplinary approaches.
The ultimate objective of the study programme is to train experts able to solve problems in the field of basic research of the majority of geological sciences as well as work in the field of applications and solving interdisciplinary problems. Graduates are able to independently solve complex and highly specialised problems and tasks in selected fields of geology.
