Vice-rector prof. dr. Tanja MihaličTanja Mihalič studied at the University of Ljubljana, the University of Indiana in the USA and the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. She earned her PhD at the Faculty of Economics in Ljubljana, researching ecological issues in tourism. She is a full-time professor of tourism at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana, where she previously held the post of Vice-Dean for International Affairs. She has mentored over two hundred diploma theses, fifty master's theses and seven doctorate dissertations. She is active in the areas of economics of tourism, economics of the environment and sustainable development in tourism.

As a guest researcher, she has worked at the Institute of Traffic and Tourism in Switzerland and at Surrey University in Great Britain. She is also the head of the Institute for Tourism at the Faculty of Economics and the head of the postgraduate Erasmus Mundus joint international programme EMTM (European Master in Tourism Management). In 2011, she was awarded for her work and contribution in the area of higher education and received a "Golden plaque" from the University in Ljubljana for outstanding academic achievements.

She actively participates in Slovenian and international organizations. Among others, she was a member of TAC (Tourism Advisory Committee) and TSG (Tourism Sustainability Group) for the development of tourism policy at the European Commission. She is also a member of the World Committee on Tourism Ethics within the United Nations World Tourism Organization. She is the author and co-author of numerous articles in international scientific journals, monographs and textbooks. The Senate of the University of Ljubljana, at the proposal of the chancellor, appointed her as Vice-chancellor for the period from 1 June 2015 to 30 September 2017.
