The tradition of cutting-edge study in mathematics and physics at the Ljubljana University began with its establishment in 1919, when the first rector was the internationally renowned mathematician Josip Plemelj. Today, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics is one of the most successful faculties in terms of quality of researchers and teachers, maintaining extensive global cooperation with institutes and universities. The Faculty has approximately 1200 undergraduate students and a total of 150 graduate students. For years, polls have shown that students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics are top students in the country. As the central university for mathematics and physics in Slovenia, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics offers a wide range of interesting high quality courses in the field, easily comparable with the best universities in the world.
