Joint EU-Japan research in the context of the next ICT Work Programme (D/222176), 20.-21. Oktober 2010 , Finska

Spodaj je vabilo na skupno srečanje raziskovalcev EU in Japonske na temo bodočih omrežij, ki bo na Finskem 20. in 21. oktobra 2010. Srečanje je brez plačila, je pa obvezna registracija.

Dear Sir, Madam, colleague,

The last EU-Japan conferences in the field of "Future Internet" technologies and systems held in Tokyo last October (seehttp://www.prime-pco.com/nict-nwgn/events/2ndEUJsymposium/) has succesfully reconfirmed the mutual interest for tighter links between European and Japanese research actors in this domain. Following on to this event, we would now like to explore with the relevant research communities the possibilities to implement concrete EU research activities with Japanese partnership in the context of the next ICT work programme, which will cover the 2011-2012 period.

This will be the objective of the 3rd EU-Japan symposium on New Generation Networks and Future Internet which will take place in Tampere, Finland, on 20 and 21 October 2010. Similarly to the last event in Tokyo, opportunities to visit research centres and to see advanced networked technologies and services will be offered by the Finnish hosting organisers on the 22nd of October.

The event is organised  to maximise interactions between the European and Japanese participants. The target outcome of the sessions will be to identify a number of potential proposals, to be submitted under the upcoming "Challenge 1" related calls of the next ICT work programme, where Japanese partners could participate. In this context, participants to the event are invited to make a five minute presentation ( 2 to 3 slides) outlining their views on future ICT proposals and on topics where they could consider to team up with Japanese partner(s). Japanese participants to the event will make similar short presentations, outlining their research interests and the type of activities where they would welcome partnership with European actors. Following these presentations, about half of the remaining session time will be devoted to more interactive discussions between potentially "matching" interests.

Discussions and interaction will be organised through four parallel sessions of about 6 hours over the two days, adressing the following topics:

- Future Internet Architectures

- Test Beds and experiments

- Service Platforms for knowledge

- Mobility and "green" networks

Should you be interested by this opportunity to discuss partnership with Japanese research actors, you are kindly invited to participate in this symposium and to make a contribution. Participation is free and granted on a first come first served basis. Registration is mandatory through the following web site, where you can also upload your contribution:

This web site will be also updated to refine the topics of interest and to provide the necessary logistics information.

We are available for any further information you may require.

Looking forward to seeing you in Tampere.
