Title: Cyanobacteria and their toxins in water bodies; development of molecular tools for biological water monitoring and early warning

Type Details: Cyanobacteria blooms are a recurring phenomenon observed in fresh and brackish water worldwide. In addition to their ecological and economic consequences, some blooms produce toxins capable of poisoning animals and humans.

My research trajectory aims to understand the biology of bloom-forming cyanobacteria in water bodies. In addition, it aims to develop molecular probes as an early warning tool to assess the potential toxicity of cyanobacterial blooms in water bodies. Current monitoring programs require large investments that could therefore be simplified after this development.

As a cyanobacterilogist and molecular biologist, I possess more than 10 years of experience in the field, I authored an co-authored more than 18 publications, and I have been employed at several European research Institutes.
Currently, I am researcher at IMDEA-Agua, a Spanish research institute with scientific excellence and integrated multidisciplinary approach within the field of Water Management
