Title: Complex brain networks

Type Details: The concept of functional brain connectivity is considered as a central one for the understanding of the organized behavior of brain regions, beyond the simple mapping of their activity. In general, functional brain connectivity can be determined from the statistical correlation of spatially remote neurophysiologic events. The resulting connectvity pattern give a network of the communication between different cerebral sites during motor and cognitive tasks, or even during resting states.
However, very often the estimated cerebral networks have a relative large size (high number of brain areas) and complex structure due to the huge intermingling of information flows.
In this scenario, my research seeks for a novel methodology to study the brain functions, i.e. understanding the functional brain connectivity through a graph theoretical approach.
My research mainly focuses on:

* the development of graph measures to characterize and classify the communication within functional brain networks.
* the study of the human brain network in healthy subjects and in clinical patients, either during cognitive or motor tasks.
