Project Proposal

Title: Geocentric Interfaces for Heritage Digitisation

Type Details: Web interfaces with maps (Google Maps, Google Earth, MS Live Maps, Virtual Earth) provide a very intuitive interface for displaying heritage locations. We propose to develop low-cost tools for generalised and standardised authoring and displaying cultural heritage in the 2D+time space, allowing to follow the location and state of heritage items over space and time. This allows the viewer to grasp and learn the context of different heritage sites and artefacts, by visually indicating the state of a heritage site/item at a selected time and hereby allowing to make connections across space and time. Examples of such items could be: the Roman road network, the evolving railway network, archaeological sites (building extent). The user will have simple interaction widgets for selecting the time (e.g. slider) for intuitively
