Title: Boundary lubrication in cold metal forming

Type Details: The project is aimed to investigate the role of tool surface topography and tool coating on the formation and transfer of boundary layer in cold forming of aluminium alloys. A micro-mechanical model of the effects of the boundary film on the friction and product surface quality will be developed. The results will be verified by simple laboratory tests and field data collected from collaborating companies. The outcome will benefit aluminium forging, rolling, drawing companies by improving tool service life and product surface quality.
