Partnership request description:  It is proposed to carry out research in the field of monocular computer vision navigation system development. This system uses terrain contour matching method. Monocular computer vision system forms the image of the horizon line. Simultaneously, the shape of the horizon line can be calculated for any specified aircraft (spacecraft) position on the domain of aircraft (spacecraft) position uncertainty. True position is determined from the condition of maximum similarity of the observed horizon line and calculated horizon line shape. This system is similar to the Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) navigation system. The difference is that the TERCOM system uses terrain profile on the segment of lane, but proposed system uses terrain profile on the closed graph which corresponds to horizon line. Terrain profile information is available for Earth, Mars and Moon. Application area of monocular computer vision navigation systems: 1. Navigation of spacecrafts in a neighborhood of Mars and Moon. 2. Navigation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or manned aircraft. 3. High precision local vertical measurement sensors for low orbit satellites and celestial navigation system of aircraft. Monocular computer vision navigation system advantages: 1. Comparatively small weight, size and power consumption. 2. Passive mode of operation. So it is absent any electromagnetic emission. This system cannot be suppressed by any active or passive electronic countermeasures. 3. There is no error accumulation, which is the characteristic of the inertial navigation systems. Adequate choice of an infrared light band decreases the influence of absorption and scatter in the atmosphere to acceptable level. Rough estimation shows that clouds allow navigation during approximately 50% of time flight. This estimation has been made for very long range flights.
