A new type solid electrolytes for IT-SOFCs and development of SOFC: production and performance studies.

Partnership request description:  Commonly used electrolyte materials are yttria stabilized zirconia systems (YSZ) in SOFCs. But they need high temperature for synthesis and usages of these type materials. For this reason fuel cell researches are related with usage under low temperatures (intermediate temperature, <500 C, IT-SOFCs), have high yield, more simple production and have high performance and stability for SOFCs and solid electrolytes. Among these subjects new type ceria-based and bismuth-based electrolytes and thin film production techniques researches are important. Properties of single phase Bi2O3-based solid electrolytes are been good ionic conductors (with O2- anion) and have got high yields. Experimental parameters as dopant type, temperature, reaction environment and temperature and cooling rate and crystal structure effects are important. Compound type and dopant rate and material forming and forming techniques are very important for thermal stability and stabilized conductivity and structure. For this reason, electrolytes having thermal stability and stabilized structure are popular and commonly research subjects for IT-SOFCs. In this suggested project, unlikely than the previous projects we will work in a wide range of stoichiometric interval, electrolytes and fuel cells will be produced in a thin film form and this new type of electrolytes will be tested by the form of fuel cell. Produced electrolytes are expected to show higher conductivity and structural stability compared with zirconia and ceria based ceramics.
