Although the Erasmus Mundus programme's first aim is to promote European higher education outside the European Union and attract students from 'third countries', the master courses are also benificial to European students through their high quality standards, unique mobility schemes, and multiple or joint international degrees.
Furthermore, some of the master courses have entered into so-called Action 3-partnerships, offering European students scholarships to attend part of their curriculum at renowned institutions outside the European Union, and are linked with important research institutions and/or networks.
