Berločnik Tomaž

Tomaž Berločnik is the CEO of the biggest Slovenian energy company, Petrol d.d. Ljubljana, which controls 27 companies operating in 10 European countries.

He is a university mechanical engineering graduate with a master’s degree in economic science, completing his studies at the Economics Faculty of the University of Ljubljana.

He began his business career while still a student at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, where he set up his first company with friends.

After completing his studies he continued his career path as project leader for the rehabilitation of companies at the Slovenian Development Fund. In 1998 he joined the management team working at the company Donit Tesnit d.d., going on to serve as CEO of that company.

Later he became CEO of the company Istrabenz d.d., one of the biggest Slovenian holding companies, bringing together a full 73 companies in the areas of food, investment, tourism and energy. He has been a member of the supervisory boards of Elan, Slovenske železnice, Telekom Slovenije and Petrol.

In 2011 he was appointed CEO of Petrol, and in February 2016 he was given a new five-year term to run the company. He abides by the saying “Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today”, one reason why he is so successful and can perform multiple jobs at the same time. He is vice president of the Manager Association, president of the basketball club Petrol Olimpija and chairman of the supervisory board of Geoplin d.o.o. Ljubljana, as well as being a member of the Association of Supervisors of Slovenia.

His success at work has earned him the Primus prize, intended for leading managers for outstanding excellence in communication and for their contribution to the development of the communication profession.

Over the years he has maintained contact with his alma mater, collaborating successfully with the Economics Faculty as a strategic partner, and through numerous additional education courses, symposiums and lectures he shares his knowledge and experience with students.
