Merc Uroš

Entrepreneur, researcher, innovator, philanthropist.

A person who driven by a zeal and desire for a better tomorrow is shifting the boundaries of the energy industry and is generating a sunny future.

He is the co-founder, majority shareholder and CEO of BISOL Group, a manufacturer of high-quality solar equipment with a presence in more than 80 markets around the world.

Before launching into the commercial sphere, Dr Uroš Merc was a young researcher and member of the research team at the Laboratory for Semiconductor Structures and Optoelectronics at the Faculty of Electronics of the University of Ljubljana, and a guest professor at the Institute for the Physics of Hard Matter in Vienna. After successfully defending his doctoral thesis in the area of quantum mechanics, in 2005 he gained the title of doctor of electrical engineering, then founded his own company and became one of the leading entrepreneurs in the photovoltaic sector.

In his career he has received numerous awards and prizes, including the managerial challenge for a bold business plan, entrepreneur of the year 2009 and the Ruban d’Honneur in the European Business Awards. In 2018 at the Slovenian Photovoltaic Conference, organised by the UL Faculty of Electrical Engineering, he received a special award for his outstanding contribution to the development of photovoltaics in Slovenia. In addition to heading a group a companies with a total of more than 200 employees and with representative offices in Slovenia, Belgium, France, Italy and the UK, he devotes himself to raising awareness about the use of green energy and about innovative approaches to social responsibility.

His extensive experience in the area of economic diplomacy includes cooperation with numerous high-profile business people, politicians, state officials, ambassadors and various representatives of civil society. As a lecturer at multiple international conferences he retains his teaching verve, providing education on the possibilities of using solar energy and spreading knowledge of photovoltaics.

He is also active in Slovenian and European energy politics as a member of the group for designing an initiative for strategic European technologies at the European Commission, he is the founder of the Association of the Slovenian Photovoltaic Industry, the former CEO and supervisory board member of Elektro Celje and an honorary member of the association ASI.
