Prunk Janko

Renowned Slovenian historian and politician who obtained his doctorate in history at the Ljubljana Faculty of Arts in 1976. Professor Prunk has written numerous books and academic articles that largely touch on the Slovenian national question, Slovenian Christian socialism, analytical political science and contemporary European history.

 

He has also studied at the University of Leipzig and the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris. From 1984 to 1995 he held a grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and was a visiting professor at the universities of Cologne and Freiburg. He is a member of the Institute of European History in Mainz and associate of the Center for European Integration Studies in Bonn.

 

Now retired, he was Full Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana between 1988 and 2012, and has been active in politics since 1990. In the course of his career, Janko Prunk received the following awards and prizes for his teaching and academic work: Ambassador of Science of Slovenia, a Golden Plaque of the University of Ljubljana, the title of Professor Emeritus of the University of Ljubljana  and a Zois Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievements for his book “A History of Europe During the Period of Rationalist Civilisation 1775–2015”.
