At an ordinary session held on 21 October 2025, the University of Ljubljana Senate confirmed that Professor Maja Klun from the Faculty of Public Administration (UL FU) will serve a four-year term as Vice-Rector ending in 2029. Professor Klun will begin her term of office on 1 November 2025, and have responsibility for the area of digitalisation and knowledge transfer.
Prof. Dr Maja Klun is a full professor at UL FU and former Vice-Dean for Research. Her main area of research concerns public sector economics, particularly public finance. As a researcher, she has been involved in a number of projects and government working groups. She is currently editor-in-chief of the journal CEPAR, and was elected this year to serve as chair of the NISPAcee Steering Committee. In 2020, she received the Alena Brunovska Award for Teaching Excellence in Public Administration.
“Digitalisation and knowledge transfer are key to the university’s future and its wider social role. Knowledge transfer is crucial to improving Slovenia’s innovation indicators. We must work to ensure closer and more strategic cooperation with the outside world so that the innovations created within the research context can stimulate development in all areas of society. Digitalisation has become part of our everyday lives. Digital tools help us to better integrate research, teaching and technical processes, and to transfer knowledge into practice more speedily. As vice-rector, I will continue to work towards the comprehensive development of digital solutions capable of supporting learning, research and collaboration with the world outside the university. It is important for us to understand digitalisation as an opportunity for greater accessibility, efficiency and innovation, and not just as a technical process. Together with all the university’s member institutions, we will build an environment in which digital transformation is aligned with our values and mission,” said Professor Klun.
The following members of staff will also serve as vice-rectors for the 2025–2029 period:
- Prof. Dr Ksenija Vidmar Horvat, Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs
- Prof. Dr Gregor Dolinar, Vice-Rector for Research and Development
- Prof. Dr Matjaž Drevenšek, Vice-Rector for the Arts and Sport
- Prof. Dr Janez Vogrinc, Vice-Rector for Quality and Sustainability.
The University of Ljubljana congratulates Professor Klun and wishes her every success in her new post.
