University of Ljubljana again among the world’s top 400 universities in ten subjects in QS rankings

The 16th edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject was published in March 2026. The University of Ljubljana (UL) repeated last year’s success, ranking among the top 400 universities worldwide in ten subjects and among the top 500 worldwide in 12 subjects.
This year UL is ranked among the top 400 universities worldwide in agriculture and forestry, geography, archaeology, linguistics, education, sociology, pharmacy, mathematics, physics and astronomy, and materials science. Among these subjects, it performs even better in pharmacy, archaeology, geography, and agriculture and forestry, where it ranks among the top 300 universities worldwide.
In terms of the number of universities included in each subject ranking, UL performs best in agriculture and forestry (ranked 201–250 out of 475 universities listed), pharmacy (ranked 151–200 out of 402 universities listed) and physics and astronomy (ranked 351–400 out of 676 universities listed).
UL is also ranked among the top 450 universities worldwide in two of the five broad subject areas, which group together multiple specific subjects, namely Arts & Humanities and Life Sciences & Medicine. It has improved its position in these subject areas compared to last year’s rankings, while last year it was also ranked among the top 500 universities in the broad subject area of Natural Sciences.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject provide an overview of university rankings across 55 subjects, grouped into five broad subject areas. This year a total of 1,912 universities were included across all subjects, meaning that more than 150 additional universities were covered compared to last year.
