Professor Zvezdan Pirtošek appointed United Nations Independent Expert on the human rights of older persons

Professor Zvezdan Pirtošek from the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Medicine has been appointed Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons at the United Nations Human Rights Council. He is the first Slovenian representative to be involved in Special Procedures at the council.
With this appointment, Professor Pirtošek becomes part of the system of Special Procedures at the United Nations, which brings together special rapporteurs and independent experts in individual human rights fields. Professor Pirtošek becomes the first Slovenian expert to join this Special Procedures system,
and it is an important recognition of his work and of Slovenia as a whole. His tasks will include monitoring the situation regarding the human rights of older persons, drafting recommendations and reports for UN Member States, and taking part in the development of policies and standards in the field.
He was congratulated on his appointment by Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar.
