In collaboration with Študentski Dom Ljubljana, the body responsible for managing the halls of residence, and following an initiative from the Student Community Gardens organisation, the University of Ljubljana installed a new bicycle service station at the Rožna Dolina campus on Wednesday 15 April. The aim is to encourage UL students to choose sustainable forms of micromobility such as cycling for their daily transport needs.

The ground-level service station is located in a dedicated area in front of the Rožna Dolina sports hall, opposite the entrance to the student canteen. It is free to use and available to students and other cyclists who might need a quick tune-up or some basic repair work on their bike. 

The station is equipped with a set of tools for basic repairs, including screwdrivers, Allen keys and a tool for removing inner tubes. It provides a handy solution when you need to change or inflate a flat tyre, tighten a screw or two, change or replace a chain, or fix the gears.

The station is also equipped with a device for holding the bike off the ground as you work, which makes it easier to access components when making repairs, and a pump with pressure gauge and an adaptor for all valve types and sizes.

This measure is proof of our commitment as a university to sustainable initiatives led by students themselves, and of our support for everyday sustainable mobility and micromobility choices – choices that can nevertheless lead to a few problems along the way, such as a flat tyre. As spring calls for the bike as the best way of getting around, this solution will help students and others enjoy a safer and more comfortable ride from dorm to faculty and back, as well as through the city generally.
