On Thursday, 14 May 2026, we gathered at the Botanical Garden of the University of Ljubljana to explore the fascinating world of nectar-producing plants. These plants also served as the central motif and inspiration for the creative part of the workshop, during which participants worked using the screen-printing technique.

In the first part of the workshop, Dr Jože Bavcon and Dr Blanka Ravnjak guided us, due to rain, not through the flowering beds of the Botanical Garden, but instead through the tropical greenhouse, and introduced us to numerous interesting facts about tropical plants and their adaptations for attracting pollinators. Among other things, we learned how important a role in the pollination of tropical plants in their natural environment is played not only by bees, but also by flies, hummingbirds, ants and bats. We also discussed the interdependence between plant diversity and the diversity of pollinators.

During the screen-printing workshop led by Dr Darja Rant, participants created felt baskets decorated with colourful prints of nectar-producing plants, combining creativity, reflection on the importance of biodiversity and relaxation through focused crafting.

Through the workshop, we symbolically marked World Bee Day, celebrated annually on 20 May.
