On the international rankings of the best universities in the world, the QS World University Rankings 2027, which came out for the 23rd time in June 2026, the University of Ljubljana (UL) was ranked in 530th place, marking an improvement over last year’s placing (when it stood at 535) and at the same time attained its highest ranking since 2015, when it was ranked in the category of universities between 501st and 550th place.
This year a total of 1,504 universities succeeded in getting placed on the QS rankings, which are regarded as among the best known and most reputable rankings of universities. This means that UL was placed higher on the rankings than 64.8% of the universities that were ranked. The assessment procedure included a total of 8,808 universities, indicating that the number of universities in the initial assessment selection increased by 4% over the previous year.
In the individual categories that make up the rankings, as it did last year UL attained its highest placement in the category of employment outcomes, which takes into account the level of employability of graduates from individual universities. In this category, after placing 41st last year, UL took 52nd place this time around.
Compared to last year, UL advanced by 62 places in the category that assesses the operation of universities in international research networks (179th place), by 20 places in the category of academic reputation of universities (394th place) and by 33 places in the category that assesses the faculty-student ratio (398th place). It was also placed within the top 700 universities in the world in the category of sustainability (692nd place).
The fourth successive improvement in UL’s placement on the QS rankings reflects the efforts the UL is investing in boosting its international reputation and prominence, its integration into the international research environment and the development of its graduates, who are valued and employable both at home and abroad, whereby it is also fulfilling its strategic orientation towards ensuring an elite learning experience and the high employability of graduates.
