Study programme

ECTS credit points can be obtained for the first or the second cycle of the study programme.


Enrolment in the first or the second cycle of a study programme of the University of Ljubljana. . Requirement for taking the exam is 75% attendance of the course.

Methods of work

  • Lectures: 10 hrs.
  • Tutorial: 50 hrs.
  • Individual work: 30 hrs.


The exam is scored from 110 in accordance with the Statutes of the University of Ljubljana. Theoretical (50%) and practical (50%) exam.

Content of ECTS sports subject

The ECTS sports subject consists of courses or training, training process, upgrading the levels of difficulty and the formal progression in the level of acquired knowledge and skills. In addition to the training content, the rules of behaviour in and out of sports surfaces, use of appropriate equipment for training is covered. The ECTS sports subject also includes a historical overview, basic competition rules and using basic props.

Objectives and competences

  • Knowledge and understanding of the differences between the concepts of martial arts and combat sports
  • Knowing the basics of fencing
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic competition rules tailored to the level of acquired knowledge
  • Fulfilling the code of conduct in training courses in sports contexts and in private life
  • Through reasonably orderly, comprehensive and individually tailored program to develop, consolidate and build on the basic elements of fencing and related aspects of self-defence
  • Improving self-esteem, self-confidence and security

Intended learning outcomes

Through meaningful and orderly program that anyone can understand and conquer the systematic consolidation of elements in the skills courses. In addition to recreational fitness, more power and dynamism, improving posture and motor coordination are developed to obtain inner strength and self-confidence.

Understanding the basic principles and rules of sports activities, developing basic skills in the field of the course, learning about the differences between the concept of martial arts and combat sports;

Understanding  principles and rules of sports activities in the field of fencing, facing self-unforeseen situations, reacting more effectively to unforeseen situations;

Understanding and integrating theory with practical experience, the link between the theoretical principles with practical actions;

Ability to use literature, use of teaching aids, identification and problem solving, critical analysis, reflection on the literature and teamwork
