Study programme

ECTS credit points can be obtained for the first or the second cycle of the study programme.


Enrolment in the first or the second cycle of a study programme of the University of Ljubljana. Requirement for taking the exam is 75% attendance of the course.

Methods of work

  • Lectures: 10 hrs.
  • Tutorial: 50 hrs.
  • Individual work: 30 hrs.


The exam is scored from 110 in accordance with the Statutes of the University of Ljubljana. Theoretical (70%) and practical (30%) exam.


Skiing equipment: ski, ski boots, ski poles, skiing clothes, skiing helmet.

Content of ECTS sports subject

The basic Content of the ECTS sports subject is linked to acquiring practical and theoretical knowledge of skiing for both beginners as well as students with good skiing background. In the autumn, there an introductory lecture will be published on preparations for skiing and the choice of appropriate and the best affordable ski equipment for different categories of skiers (beginners, better skiers, etc.).

The practical part of the ECTS sports subject will be held in the compact form of a few-day course, where the work on snow will be carried out in – according to the knowledge background homogeneous groups led by the highest professionally qualified ski instructors. Participants will try to achieve advances in their skiing techniques based on the selection of the most effective ways of ski learning, according to their skills and knowledge background (intermediary and corrective exercises, use of assistive devices, individual-group work, etc.). Upon completion of practical work on the snow, every day, organized within the groups led by teachers, will be analysis of video recordings of performances of each individual skier. Using the video camera is a very effective part of the teaching process, in particular regarding the correction of deficiencies in skiing technique. The last day of the ECTS sports subject will also include an examination of practical knowledge of skiing. For all the present candidates, this will mean the completion of the ECTS sports subject and eligibility for acquiring 3 credits points (ECTS CP).

Objectives and competences

The primary purpose is to educate students from all faculties in the field of alpine skiing:

  • The basic objective is to provide adequate knowledge of this discipline and to interest students to create a permanently active attitude towards the sport as a compensatory activity alongside study and work
  • Raising awareness about the values of sport and with that influencing the formation of positive attitudes to sport and getting used to a healthy lifestyle
  • Eliminating and preventing the consequences of lack of movement, concern for the improvement of mental and physical fitness, health promotion and creative use of leisure time
  • Informative acquaintance with the basic rules of skiing and the preparation for the first ski day
  • Knowledge of appropriate ski equipment (skis, ski poles, ski boots) for different categories of skiers
  • Acquiring and mastering the basic forms of sliding (adapting to the skis and the basic positions, sliding with a combination of basic positions, simple direction changing)
  • Acquiring and mastering the beginner forms of skiing (wedge turns and the turns with wedge push-off)
  • Acquiring advanced forms of skiing (basic turning, field turning in the wider corridor and turning the narrow corridor)
  • Getting to know certain implementations of simple complementary forms of skiing
  • Knowledge of safety on the slopes and awareness of responsibility in ski traffic

Intended learning outcomes

Understanding the concepts, laws, phenomena, structures, processes, relationships and procedures in alpine skiing;

The creation of rational and emotional attitudes towards physical effort, knowledge of the theory of active rest, and methods for regeneration of the body;

Using the acquired knowledge in everyday life and to compensate for the negative effects of unilateral load during the study;

Developing an own understanding of theory and practical experience through the acquired knowledge to ensure greater quality of life and greater study efficiency;

Skill of using domestic and foreign literature, the use of teaching aids, identification and problem solving, critical analysis, reflection on the read literature and teamwork.
