On Tuesday, 6 June 2017, the stadium Ljudski vrt in Maribor again hosted the traditional football match between the student teams of the University of Maribor and the University of Ljubljana. The university derby concluded with a score of 3:1 for the University of Ljubljana team.

Jaka Corn, a student of the Faculty of Economics scored three goals (in 18th, 26th and 39th minutes) for the University of Ljubljana team. Borut Semler scored the honorary goal for Maribor from a penalty kick in the 84th minute.

The kick-off was delivered by the host, Rector of the University of Maribor Prof. Dr. Igor Tičar, accompanied by Vice-rector of the University of Ljubljana Prof. Dr. Goran Turk. In the company of other representatives from the both Universities, the Football Association of Slovenia, the Slovenian Olympic Committee and the Slovenian University Sports Association we were treated to an interesting match. The event finished with the award ceremony and presentation of the trophy, which is moving to Ljubljana for one year.

The current standings after five matches includes one draw in the first match in May of 2014, three wins for the University of Ljubljana and one for the University of Maribor.
