The very first Congress Ambassadors of 2019 received honorary titles at Ljubljana Castle. The 25 Ambassadors include nine members of staff from the University of Ljubljana. This is a project launched by the Slovenian Convention Bureau, supported by the Slovenian Tourist Board, in collaboration with the Ljubljana Convention Bureau and sixteen participating partners.
The efforts of the recipients of the Congress Ambassador title have enabled Slovenia to successfully host international congresses and other business events. The Congress Ambassadors from the University of Ljubljana are: Prof. Marko Anderluh, PhD (Faculty of Pharmacy), Prof. Marija Bešter-Rogač, PhD (Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology), Assoc. Prof. Alenka Fikfak, PhD (Faculty of Architecture), Prof. Sandi Klavžar, PhD (Faculty of Mathematics and Physics), Assoc. Prof. Samo Kropivnik, PhD (Faculty of Social Sciences), Assoc. Prof. Aleš Kuhar, PhD (Biotechnical Faculty), Sabina Otoničar (Faculty of Social Sciences), Assoc. Prof. Anja Podlesek, PhD (Faculty of Arts), and Assoc. Prof. Vasilka Sancin, PhD (Faculty of Law).
The prerequisite for nomination for the Congress Ambassador title was to organise a scientific-professional or business event with a minimum of 100 attendees and at least half of the participants from abroad. The committee considered events that took place from 2014 up to, and including, 2018. Events involving regional, European, and international or global associations, which brought the most international participants to Slovenia, or which were of exceptional international significance, were prioritised.
The Slovenian Ambassadors Program is of great importance for the success of Slovenia in internationalising science, various professional fields, business and sports. The program offers comprehensive support to Slovenian doctors, scientists, experts, businesspeople, athletes and other individuals active in their field of expertise and who are members of international associations, ranging from being chosen to host an international event to its final implementation.
