University of Ljubljana Rector Prof. Dr Igor Papič bestowed certificates of recognition for outstanding academic success on University students. The recipients are the most successful students of their generation.

“You who are gathered here today are students who have achieved the most outstanding success of your generation. Your academic achievements go beyond the ordinary work of studying, some of you are already being published internationally, and you are successful competitors or even winners in international competitions. I hope that your desire for knowledge and research will never falter. A special thanks to all the mentors who saw in you individuals who want to achieve more than is expected of them. They devoted their time to you and have undoubtedly given you a great deal of their knowledge and experience,” said Rector of the University of Ljubljana Prof. Dr Igor Papič in his opening address. Since those receiving certificates of recognition are among the University’s top students, the Rector expressed a wish that at least some of them pursue a career at the University of Ljubljana and contribute to it becoming an even more outstanding research institution.

This is the kind of career path chosen by the keynote speaker, mag. Anka Slana Ozimič, who is employed at the Department of Psychology in the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Arts. She is a university bachelor of social education and has a master’s in cognitive science, and is completing her doctorate in neuroscience biomedicine at the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Medicine. The decorated streets full of well-meaning faces tell us that we are about to enter a new year, a new decade – a milestone that reminds us what exciting times we live in! On the one hand we are asking ourselves how to ensure the survival of ourselves and our planet, and on the other hand we are right at the point of being able to occupy other planets. Professional and scientific achievements have perhaps never before been placed before such a challenge. We need the success of a very wide variety of experts who will be able to recognise the right questions for the present day, and who will endeavour to take action in the widest variety of fields to ensure both the survival and quality of life. And precisely at this time, when the University of Ljubljana is celebrating its centenary, you too, the recipients of these awards, are entering into this story of success and achievement. We are proud that you have taken your first steps towards academic excellence under the aegis of the University of Ljubljana, and have thereby contributed a small piece to the development of our country, the shaping of our national consciousness and the international standing of our university,” said mag. Slana Ozimič in her message to the young award recipients.
