Rector of the University of Ljubljana Prof. Dr. Igor Papič, received the title of the Honorary Congress Ambassador of Slovenia 2020. Recipients of the title of Congress Ambassador of Slovenia in the field of scientific events are Prof. Dr. Marko Čepin from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Mitjan Kalin from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, Mag. Aleksandra Majić Skrbinšek from the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Matjaž Mikoš from the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, Lector Dr. Saša Podgoršek from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Joško Valentinčič from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana.

As part of the Slovenian Ambassador Programme, the Slovenian Convention Bureau presented this year’s Congress Ambassadors of Slovenia in an online event. The title is awarded to experts who have, in recent years, made a significant contribution in attracting international scientific, professional, and other business and sports events to Slovenia through their commitment, dedication, international involvement and persistence. Through his work, as part of CIGRE, CIRED and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the Rector, Prof. Dr. Igor Papič, contributed to many international meetings taking place in Ljubljana and Slovenia. Under his leadership, the University of Ljubljana is strengthening its strategic collaboration with key Slovenian scientific and research institutions, which also have strong international links.

The seven-member committee of the Slovenian Ambassador Programme, composed of representatives of destinations and members of the Slovenian Convention Bureau, selected the 25 recipients of the esteemed title at the end of October. The majority of Ambassadors were nominated in the field of scientific events, which took place between 2017 and 2019. The number of participants required for a scientific event to be eligible for the selection was 100, with at least half of the participants from abroad. The selection favoured events involving regional, European, and international or global organisations, which brought the most international attendees to Slovenia, or had the biggest impact. Similarly to last year, one representative of the profession, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, received the honorary title as part of the Slovenian Ambassador Programme.

The Slovenian Ambassador Programme was launched last year by the Slovenian Convention Bureau, supported by the Slovenian Tourist Board, in collaboration with the Ljubljana Tourism Convention Bureau and 16 partners.
