Prof. Dr. Čufar from the University of Ljubljana Biotechnical Faculty and her colleagues study wood as tree tissue: “Growth rings can be several millimetres wide and consist of a large number of cells. By studying wood formation, we can determine how individual cells are formed and under what conditions, when the cambium is active and how it produces wood and bark. This is vital to ensure the survival of trees.”
