Researcher Profile: PhD in Engineering/Physics/Neurosciences/Physiology

Application Deadline: 1 May 2012

We are inviting applications for a postdoctoral research position at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia,
EU. Work position code is H019001, salary class IX (public sector). The position (1 FTE) is initially
available for one year with the possibility of extension until the end of the project (December 2014).
The position provisionally opens with June 1st, 2012. Probation period is three months. Successful applicant
will be asked to apply for a research habilitation before the commencement of employment.
The postdoctoral position is funded by the EU Seventh Framework Programme project Nanobiotouch
(Nanoresolved multiscan investigations of human tactile sensations and tissue engineered nanobiosensors,
http://www.nanobiotouch.org). The project is shared within thirteen institutions in eight EU countries
(Belgium, Check Republic, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK).
Research focus of the postdoctoral project is modelling of mechanical and biophysical processes behind the
human tactile and vibrational senses. The focus of the research may be designed according to the wishes and
abilities of the applicant and could include modelling mechanical deformations of skin and its
mechanoreceptors, of electrophysiological processes in sensory cells, of activity of neuronal networks.
Further tasks are cooperation with experimental researchers, meta-analysis of experimental data, attendance
at international meetings, activity planning, organisation and reporting, preparation of written technical
reports and scientific manuscripts and dissemination of acquired knowledge to industry.
The applicant must hold a PhD or an equivalent degree in technical or natural sciences. The applicant should
have experience in research in mechanical or electrical engineering, biophysics, theoretical neuroscience or
neurophysiology. The applicant should have good analytical and programming skills and should ideally have
experience with finite element methods and with mechanical, electrical or electrophysiological modelling of
biological tissues. The applicant should further have good command of English language
(both oral and written) and should have at least one scientific work published in a recognized international

We are looking forward to the applicant's CV, a motivational letter (max. one page), a short letter describing the previous research topics (max. one page), a list of software used in previous research, a list of publications, a letter of support from an established academic researcher and a copy of the PhD degree (or a written proof from the current University that the PhD defence is due before the designated project start date). The applicants are asked to state the preferred date of employment. We are especially looking forward to applications from researchers with experience with industry. We encourage qualified applicants from EU and outside of EU to apply for the position.
