Kristina Drnovšek, a student from the Unique Design / Glass programme at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana, became a finalist at one of the biggest international competitions in the field of glass design, the Stanislav Libenský Glass Award 2016, with her thesis entitled The Unbearable Lightness of Being in Glass Slippers.

Stanislav Libenský Award is the only international competition in the field of glass art and design intended exclusively for young graduate students from these kinds of study programmes. Graduate students from more than forty universities across the globe have participated in the annual competition since its beginning in 2009.

Kristina Drnovšek is considered one of the world's best designers to be ending their university level studies in glass design. Her thesis The Unbearable Lightness of Being in Glass Slippers, which was created in the 2015/2016 study year under the mentorship of Tanja Pak, M. A., is composed of two different pairs of glass slippers. The first pair is a part of artistic spatial composition while the second pair is a wearable pair of leader shoes with glass heels. They will be exhibited alongside other finalists from 15 September to 14 November 2016 in the DOX Center for Contemporary Arts gallery in Prague. The winners will be announced at the grand opening of the exhibition on 14 September 2016.

Kristina Drnovšek's success means that the Unique Design programme of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design of the University of Ljubljana has been globally acknowledged for the third consecutive year in the scope of this competition. Visibility and success of its students is increasing though the years by participating in other larger international glass exhibitions, such as E-merge Bullseye in the USA, European Glass Context in Denmark and Zwiesel International Glass Award in Germany.
