The Ljubljana Confucius Institute, which operates as a part of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana, received the "Confucius Institute of the Year" award at the 11th conference of the Confucius Institute in Kunming, China.

The Vice-rector of the University of Ljubljana Prof. Dr. Matej Zupan received the award on behalf of the Confucius Institute from the Deputy Prime Minister of the People's Republic of China Madam Lu Yandong, and it was then given to the director of the Ljubljana Confucius Institute Danijela Voljč, MSc, by the Rector of the University of Ljubljana Prof. Dr. Ivan Svetlik. The Ljubljana Confucius Institute is ranked as one of the top Confucius Institutes that received the award this year. It is ranked among the top 25 of 511 Confucius Institutes in 140 countries.

The Ljubljana Confucius Institute was established with the purpose of teaching the Chinese language and culture, for the promotion of business opportunities and for building connections between Chinese and Slovene cultures. The main emphasis of the Institute is on teaching the language of business. The Ljubljana Confucius Institute is one of the few Confucius Business Institutes in the world. Confucius Business Institutes are also found at London School of Economics (LSE), Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Athens University of Economics and Business and State University of New York.
