The Rector of the University of Ljubljana Prof. Dr. Ivan Svetlik welcomed the representatives of the National Central Library of Taiwan. At the meeting they signed an Agreement of Cooperation in the Database of the union catalogue of Chinese rare books. On the basis of the signed agreement, the University of Ljubljana will provide the records of Chinese books from the University’s own collection to the National Central Library of Taiwan. These records will be included in the open-access database, and an image printing function will be enabled for search and access from University of Ljubljana computers.

At the signing of the Cooperation Agreement the Director-general of the National Central Library of Taiwan, Prof. Dr. Shu-hsien Tseng presented the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Ivan Svetlik with a copy of the Buddhist Diamond Sutra, which is considered the oldest printed book in the world. It is one of the most influential sutras in East Asia and is a key object of devotion and study in Zen Buddhism.
