Today, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr. Igor Papič, honoured University students in recognition of special achievements and active participation in extracurricular events. Award recipients were students who exceed the demands and expectations of their regular study programmes. Among other recognitions, selected students were honoured for their activities in organising high profile events and for having achieved excellent placements at international competitions. This year, the awards went to students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, the Faculty of Sport, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, the Faculty of Law, and the Faculty of Theology of the University of Ljubljana.
At the seventh and final celebratory event within the University of Ljubljana Week, the Rector of the University of Ljubljana prof. dr. Igor Papič, stressed that it is particularly important to commend everyone who achieved success and the highest grades with their abilities and study efforts. “ It is the most curious who acquire additional knowledge, the most impatient who seek to test their acquired knowledge in practice, the most socially aware who wish to contribute something positive to their colleagues and to their community in the course of completing their studies. And rightly so.”
In her speech, this year’s keynote speaker, dr. Vanja Čok, the researcher and assistant at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, stressed the importance of the period of study, which enables students to be active in different areas in order to obtain valuable experience, testimonials and to form new acquaintances. “Many times, the memories of study obligations fade as years go by, but the knowledge we obtained, the friends we made and those informal skills we developed with extracurricular activities remain. And these experiences are the ones that liven up and spice up your studies and provide you with the broadness that will help you perform more confidently and wisely throughout your life,” said dr. Čok to the recipients of recognitions.
