The visit from the academic delegation from the University of Warwick to the Pompeu Fabra University was cancelled due to Covid-19. Bilateral virtual meetings will be held in replacement.

On the 2nd of April, a delegation from Vrije Universiteit Brussel will come to CY Cergy Paris Université to discuss teaching and research cooperation in the field of humanities and social sciences.

EUTOPIA 2050 PROJECT MEETINGS

On 5th and 6th March, the members of WP5 Inclusion met for a Kick-off meeting in Ljubljana, which was moderated by the University of Ljubljana, the lead, and VUB, the co-lead of WP5. Participants from all partner institutions attended the meeting; their plan is to continue to meet during EUTOPIA weeks and regularly online.

On the first day of the event, WP5 members met and held general discussions about the process of the WP5 activities. Additionally, SWP5.2 presented the planned workshops in the Western Balkans (first starting in May) – the invitation for contributions and participation still stands.

On the second day of the event, WP5 members were joined by students with the experience of disadvantage and the representatives of Slovenian association of disabled students, who shared best practices, experiences and recent research data to the rest of the group.

During the highly productive and inspiring two-full-day meetings, the members successfully planned out the work plan for the next three years, discussed conceptual premises and shared practices and experience.

OPPORTUNITIES

SIEM survey on social inclusion in Erasmus projects

Social inclusion is a priority for the current and next Erasmus programme, but very little hard data is available on the accessibility of the current programme and what measures could be put in place to improve access and participation. Only 7% of Erasmus students are coming from a disadvantaged or underrepresented group.

SIEM (Social Inclusion and Engagement in Mobility / https://siem-project.eu ), an Erasmus+ project of which Vrije Universiteit Brussel is a partner, designed a survey for students / https://uuk-surveys.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/siemstudents and a survey for university staff / https://uuk-surveys.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/siemstaff responding to the need of gathering more evidence from across Europe of what is currently working and where increased efforts can be made to improve inclusion in mobility. Both surveys are now online on the project website.

Given the relevance of the topic for Higher Educations Institutions across Europe, and especially for EUTOPIA as an inclusive European University, the VUB and WP5 Inclusion would like to ask you if you could support SIEM in disseminating the surveys among EUTOPIA’s staff and students.
