Launching of the EUTOPIA-TRAIN project

The EUTOPIA-TRAIN project was officially launched on Tuesday, the 26th of January with all EUTOPIA partners and representatives from the European Commission.

On July 24, 2020, the EUTOPIA-TRAIN initiative was awarded funding under the Horizon 2020 call Support for the Research and Innovation Dimension of European Universities (SwafS). The project was launched by the EUTOPIA Alliance, a network of six European universities (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, CY Cergy Paris Université, Goeteborgs Universitet, Univerza v Ljubljani, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, University of Warwick) committed to promoting a connected and inclusive academic community through a deep engagement of the alliance with its local and regional ecosystems.

The EUTOPIA Alliance aims to be much more than a university network. It holds a fundamental vision regarding the value-added contribution of academia to society. EUTOPIA-TRAIN sponsors academic innovation with societal impact: it aims to integrate pan-EUTOPIA research and innovation communities and structures and open them to society, business, students and policymakers. The project intends to link the research communities of EUTOPIA with local and international needs of multiple stakeholders at the three levels of the formulation of research agendas, of their execution, and the dissemination of results.

Debate against other teams from different EUTOPIA universities in the online EUTOPIA inter-university debate

As part of University of Gothenburg's involvement in the EUTOPIA initiative, the university organizes a number of student seminars. You will be provided a dataset which you should use to make an argument - for or against - and debate with other teams from different EUTOPIA universities. This time the debate will be centered around Covid-19 and students will have to address two out of four possible topics. The debate will be on March 3rd.

  • Efficacy of masks
  • Vaccines and treatments
  • Testing policies
  • Reliability of reported numbers of death
  • Gravity of the pandemic
  • Are the consequences of the lockdown and social distancing measures worse than the disease itself?

How to sign up
Sign up with your team (3 people max) or individually (you will be assigned to a team, most likely from your institution) before the 5th February. A link to the debating space will be provided to you, as well as a set of documents on COVID-19, and of online resources on argumentation and fallacies.

Two year research mobility projects between VUB and CY

The Flemish funding agency FWO has reached again an agreement with the Embassy of France in Belgium and Campus France to fund two-year mobility projects in all scientific disciplines. The Tournesol programme mainly aims to focus on junior researchers:

  • At Flemish side, the Principal Investigator can only have a postdoctoral experience of maximally 12 years. In addition, the researchers performing the exchanges towards France, can only be predoctoral researchers or researchers with a postdoctoral experience of maximally 12 years.
  • At French side, priority is also given to junior researchers. As a consequence, the seniority of the Principal Investigator and the researchers performing the exchanges towards Flanders, will be taken into account when evaluating the project proposals.

Applications can be submitted from the 1st of February 2021 till the 31st of March 2021. Project proposals have to be submitted simultaneously at FWO by a research group from Flanders and at Campus France by a research group from France.
More info will be available as of 1st of February on this link.
