The University of Ljubljana (UL) is working to improve the arrival and integration of international researchers and international students. To this end, for the second year in a row, a special counter for international students will be opened at the Ljubljana Administrative Unit.

International researchers and international students make an important contribution to the development of the country's research potential. Universities and research institutes have stepped up their internationalisation activities in recent years, which is also reflected in the large increase in the number of foreign researchers and international students.

At UL, we are working to improve the arrival and integration of foreign researchers and international students. In view of the importance of the above, the Rectors' Conference of the Republic of Slovenia (RCRS) and the Coordination of Independent Research Institutes of Slovenia (KOsRIS) have established a working group which, based on practical experience, has drawn up proposals for improvements to the procedure for obtaining a residence and work permit in Slovenia, and has collected and published useful information, translations of the forms and examples of completed forms for obtaining a residence and work permit, which are available on the EURAXESS portal for researchers and the STUDY IN SLOVENIA website for students.

To help international students start their studies, the University of Ljubljana organises and provides various support activities and services. In cooperation with the Ljubljana Administrative Unit, a special counter for international students of the University of Ljubljana will be opened at the beginning of the academic year for the second year in a row for the submission of applications for and renewal of residence permits.

The University of Ljubljana will also organise a review of residence permit documentation for international students. Students who want or need a more thorough review of the documentation and the completed forms, or who are unsure how to fill in the form, will be able to consult the University of Ljubljana International Student Ambassadors (international students already studying at UL who are involved in promotional and support activities and are willing to help prospective applicants and students).

The screening of applications will take place at the Faculty of Economics and Philosophy of UL from 18 September to 13 October 2023.

Students can also download the Welcome Guide, which provides a one-stop-shop for information that can help them before they arrive in Slovenia and afterwards to integrate into the Slovenian environment and their studies.
