The University Rector Prof. Dr. Radovan Stanislav Pejovnik and his colleagues attended the National Discussion on Higher Education on the subject of the internationalisation of higher education organised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology and CMEPIUS. Prof. Dr. Pejovnik presented the advantages of establishing a "Slovenian University" that would combine Slovenia’s existing universities into a university system (similar to the University of California or the association of 13 universities in Paris). He also submitted an initiative for the rectors to sign a solemn declaration, with which the universities would undertake to preserve the Slovenian language in a time when all quality universities are expected to introduce study programmes and lectures (partially) in English. This is indispensable to achieve a higher level of quality and the international visibility of the university. The number of foreign students and professors who want to lecture at the University of Ljubljana is increasing ever year.
