Today, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Gregor Golobič and his team visited the University of Ljubljana. The University Rector, Professor Doctor Radovan Stanislav Pejovnik, presented the University’s current challenges to the Minister: the problems of financing, protecting the quality of study, the possibility of supporting students who achieve above-average results, the financing of extracurricular activities and the problems faced when establishing different university institutes. The rector’s team explained the current situation in the area of scholarships offered for PhD studies and the project of constructing facilities for the Faculty of Computer and Information Science and the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. They also discussed the National Higher Education Programme (NHEP) and the Research and Innovation Strategy of Slovenia (RISS). Vice-Rector Aleš Valič reported that the Art Academies are dissatisfied with the NHEP and especially pointed out that doctoral study programmes (third Bologna cycle) should be available for art programmes. An agreement was reached on an intensive joint search for solutions and the continuation of such meetings.
