Under the leadership of their conductor Sebastijan Vrhovnik, the University of Ljubljana Tone Tomsic Academic Choir (APZ) placed first at the International Choral Festival in Cork, Ireland. The APZ also won the Special Award for their performance of Heinrich Schütz’s work Die Mit Tränen Säen. Taking place between 27 April and 1 May, the 57th Cork International Choral Festival saw over 4,000 singers participating and around 85 musical events. In the Mixed Voice Choir category, the singers of the APZ performed Heinrich Schütz – Die Mit Tränen Säen, J. Brahms – Ruhn Sie, Tadeja Vulc – Vodometi and Z. Randall Stroope – Conversion of Saul, achieving first place for their excellent rendition of the programme. Stockholm’s Musikgymnasium Chamber Choir, Sweden and the Männerstimmen male voice choir from Basel, Switzerland won second and third place, respectively. For their performance of the Heinrich Schütz composition, the APZ also received the Special Award. The international jury were visibly impressed by the competitive performances of the University of Ljubljana Tone Tomsic Academic Choir. They were delighted by the APZ’s outstanding choice of programme and by their spirited performances. The singers of the APZ have once more demonstrated and proven their many qualities and confirmed that they have a tradition of winning competitions.
