The traditional freshman reception was held at Prešeren Square on Monday, 3 October 2011.
The event programme commenced at 10:00 when the University of Ljubljana members began presenting their activities. Among the presenters at the stalls were the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ljubljana City Theatre, the Slovenian Youth Theatre, the Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana and the Slovenian National Theatre Drama, who handed out free tickets for plays and concerts to freshmen.

The following organisations also presented their activities: SRCe, Simbioza, Student Organisation of the University of Ljubljana, Career Centre, Ljubljana University Incubator, the Centre for University Sport, the Academic Choir Tone Tomsic of the University of Ljubljana and the Student Council of the University of Ljubljana. The Pivovarna Union Brewery distributed free bottled water to the students. At 10:30, we saw a performance by indie rock band BO! After that, the audience was entertained by the stand-up comedian Vid Valič.
The main event took place at 13:00 – the freshmen were greeted by Prof. Dr. Radovan Stanislav Pejovnik, Rector of the University of Ljubljana, by deans of University of Ljubljana members, by Mr. Zoran Janković, Mayor of the Municipality of Ljubljana, by Mr. Janez Turk, President of the Student Council of the University of Ljubljana and by Ms. Ana Pleško, President of the Student Organisation of the University of Ljubljana. In their speeches, they stressed that studying requires thorough commitment and that students should take responsibility for their future. The event ended with a concert given by Vlado Kreslin and Mali bogovi.
We wish all freshmen a warm welcome, plenty of successes and a strong will throughout their studies.
