The 3rd year student of Engineering Materials at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering of the University of Ljubljana (UL NTF), Anže Bajželj, became the world champion in the production of steel (steelChallenge-12).
The competition was held on 10 April 2018 in Mumbai, India, under the sponsorship of Worldsteel association. The team consisted of two more members, the 2nd year student of Metallurgy and Materials, Jakob Kraner and the mentor, Assist. Prof. Dr. Matjaž Knap. Their victory in this competition confirms the quality of knowledge that the students at the Department of Materials and Metallurgy of UL NTF receive.
The competition at the championships was at a very high level. Out of several thousand competitors in the first round, only the first four regional winners and the competitor who achieved the absolute second place, went to the championships. The statements of the competitors show that this success is the key in their future career plans.
The competition is highly regarded by the world steel industry, since it is held in parallel with the meeting of the largest world steel products; therefore it is no coincidence that the awards were given out by the general managers of JFE Steel Corporation, HBIS Group Co and NSSMC.
