In the framework of this year's call for Marie Skłodowska-Curie scholarships (MSCA IF) under Horizon 2020, dr. Jeffrey Christopher Everts, in collaboration with ass. prof. dr. Miha Ravnik from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana, received a two-year scholarship for the Topological Colloidal Double Layers project – TCDL, for the study of topological colloidal double layers. Dr. Everts came to the University of Ljubljana from an excellent group of prof. Dr. René van Roi of the University of Utrecht.
The scientific idea of the project is to create spatially complex - topologically non-trivial - areas of electrical charge (their fields), which could enable new types of link based on ionic solutions and materials production. The content is also relevant from the point of view of linkage and interaction of macromolecules, such as DNA, which typically occur in charged environments.
This is the second Marie S.-Curie Individual Fellowship, which was approved for funding at the University of Ljubljana as part of the European Horizon 2020 programme, and this year one of the three acquired in Slovenia.
