Slovene, Chinese and Danish scientists have joined forces, which will lead to an important breakthrough in genomics. Together they will define the entire genome of proteus, which is fifteen times more extensive than the human DNK. The project will be the first of its kind in many aspects, as it will test the limits of the most advanced technologies and will require the use of technologies that are currently not available in Slovenia.
Two groups of biologists under Prof. Dr. Nina Gunde-Cimerman and Prof. Dr. Rok Kostanjšek from the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana will be responsible for providing samples and the biological interpretation of the acquired data. The Chinese institute BGI (Qingdao, China) will contribute the technical capabilities and participate in the analysis of the data, while the Lars Bolund Institute of Integrative Regenerative Medicine (Aarhus, Denmark) will be responsible for the interpretation of data in the medical context.
The results of this project will be published in international scientific magazines and will be an important advance in the research of proteus.
